Security will be a top priority for Siyum HaShas
Report - Northjersey.com - Given rising anti-Semitic tensions following high-profile attacks in the greater New York region, security is a top priority for the event's leaders. "There will be over 300 uniformed state police in the stadium, and that's just the visible ones," said Rabbi Yosef C. Golding, Chief Operating Officer of the Siyum HaShas. Golding said he has fielded calls from nervous ticket holders about the event, which takes place days and weeks after high-profile attacks have been made on Jews:
As the Siyum HaShas approaches, Golding said security at MetLife Stadium will be on the level of a presidential visit. The East Rutherford stadium, Golding said, will be "the safest place to be on January first." read more at North Jersey.com

Erev Shabbos Chanukah Halachos Uminhagim
Halachos for this year erev shabbos chanukah based in part on Rabbi Felder's sefer Shiurei Halacha.
One who is traveling should give themselves extra time for arrival in order to daven mincha and light chanuka candles
One should light the Ner Chanuka before the Ner shabbos but it should be done not less then within a half hour to shkia or 5 to 10 minutes prior to licht benching.
The Mishna Berura writes its preferable to daven Mincha before one lights ner Chanukah on Erev Shabbos since it would be a תרתי דסתרי, meaning if one considers it to be night after the plag how can you go and daven mincha afterwards. However of one can not do so he may daven after lighting the menorah especially if it means davening with a minyan as oppose to davening before b'yechidos.
The lights must be capable of burning until 30 minutes after nightfall they should be lit for an hour and forty five minutes. Therefore, one must be careful on erev Shabbos to use sufficient oil or long candles that can burn until this time.
Children should also use long shabbos candles so their menorah will burn longer.
A wife can light shabbos candles after her husband lit the menorah and does not have to wait for everyone else to finish lighting
This year shabbos is also Rosh Chodesh we insert in benching על הניסים ,רצה ,יעלה ויבא
According to the mishna Berura we do not give or receive chanuka gifts on shabbos unless its needed for shabbos

When a Pizza Shop Opened in Lakewood
How times have changed. A historic letter (Displayed at Ateres Reva hall) written by the Lakewood Mashgiach Harav Nossson Wachtfogel zatzal in 1987. When a pizza shop was opening in Lakewood he called it a Pirtzah and instructs the Bnei yeshiva and their families in the strongest of terms not to go to the establishment or to patronize it in any way.
Today Lakewood has over 15 pizza shops alone, upscale eateries high-end Cafe's and restaurant's and special for Chanukah, donuts for $14.

Sefer עמק הסופגנים on the Minhag of Eating sufganiyot on Chanukah
A new sefer עמק הסופגנים with 400 pages was published for chanukah on the minhag of eating donuts or sufganiyot on Chanukah. The sefer is the 3rd chelek and part of a series called :
אכילה בהלל: עיונים וביאורים בעניין חיובי ומנהגי אכילה בימי חנוכה written by Rav Reuvein Shwartz shlita of Brooklyn, NY and has haskamos of the Chevron Rosh Yeshiva Harav Dovid Cohen shlita and other gedolei Roshei Yeshivos.
Here's a review by R' Moshe Schapiro:
Every once in a while we receive a book in the library that is so unusual that I feel compelled to share it with the world. I am referring to the publication of Sefer Emek HaSufganim (lit. The Valley of the Donuts) by Rabbi Reuven Schwartz. You may be asking yourself, “Where is this valley? Someone show me the way!” But the word “emek” – “valley” here really means “depth.” So perhaps the better translation of the title would be The Depth of the Donuts. Now you may be asking, “What’s so deep about donuts?” Well, hold your breath and let us dunk into this new book and find out.

Satmar Rebbe Decries WatsApp Groups and Statuses
Last night at כא' כסלו event with thousands celebrating the escape of the previous Satmar Rebbe from the Nazis ym"s, the Satmar Rebbe Rav Aaron Teitelbaum spoke about current issues and events pertaining to the klal.
The Rebbe spoke out against smartphones, he said that we are losing our body and neshama together, and even those that have a filter the yetzer hora has found a way to bypass it through other means such as Watsapp groups and Statuses that are not filtered by connecting people of different backgrounds with each other.
People send and forward all kinds of lashon hora, rechilus, Nivul peh and giluy Arayos, within a few seconds one can spread filth across the world
The Rebbe said to the one that sends these clips he is like ירבעם בן נבט who causes others to sin. This has caused many tzaaros on klal yisrael both physically and spiritually destroying homes and we must scream loud to the low point that we have come to. The Rebbe called out those who post and pass images of people in trouble with the law who were caught or convicted it’s bad enough they are shamed at the moment but this only increases their bizyonos. The rebbe called the one who takes the picture a rotzeach as chazal say כל המלבין פני חברו ברבים כאילו שופך דמים those who share it and distribute to other groups are also guilty of retzicha. We have murderers among us who Jewish blood is cheap in their eyes he said.

Appeals Court: Individual Mandate Unconstitutional good news for NJ
A federal appeals court on Wednesday ruled that ObamaCare's individual mandate is unconstitutional, but punted on the larger question of what it means for the rest of the health law. While president Trump eliminated the mandate, the state of NJ reinstated the federal individual mandate as a tax for those who don't have health insurance. This ruling will likely make it unconstitutional in NJ too.
A Prayer for President Trump
President Donald Trump tweeted earlier to say a prior before the vote to impeach him. The following prayer has been said by Jewish communities for millennia for the protection and blessing of leaders and Kings who's countries they lived in.

Article: Safety Following the Jersey City Attack
Article in Israeli Haaretz- NEW JERSEY – A day after Tuesday’s deadly shooting attack on a kosher supermarket in Jersey City, Avraham Hershkowitz made his way to the scene of the crime to pay his respects.
Originally a New Yorker, Hershkowitz now lives about 90 minutes south in Lakewood, home to a growing Orthodox-Jewish community where tensions with the non-Jewish population have been rising. “We’re sitting ducks – you know what that means?”

Bill Could Allow Lakewood BOE to Raise Taxes more than the tax Cap
A bill passed yesterday in Trenton pending a signature from Gov Murphy will allow some school districts including Lakewood to raise property taxes more than the current allowed 2% tax cap. The bill allows the district to do so, starting this coming year through the 2024-2025 school year. Gov Murphy is expected to push back.
The measure would apply to school districts that have lost aid as the state shakes up its funding formula, allowing these districts to make up their losses by exceeding the 2-percent cap on tax increases.

Video: Boy recounts How he was saved from JC shooting
Translated by Goldie Hirsch - Yiddish English Translator
He went to pick up chocolates from the menahel's office on the other block to bring back to all the boys as a treat because they were learning b'retzifus. As he arrived to the door, he was about to punch in the combination when he heard a shot. He thought that he has time to quickly enter the number and let himself in. When he noticed the normally lethargic bystanders start running he turned around and saw a man with a long gun shooting repeatedly into the grocery. "I have to get out of here!" He thought, and made a run for it. He ran back where he came from and met up with Mr. Lax, the other baal haness, and he took him home with him. This caused a bit of confusion, because the cheder staff couldn't locate him (I believe Mr. Lax called the boy's father, but I guess he didn't call the cheder right away) He could hear the shootout from there and spent five hours holed up in their house. Hundreds of Parents show up in Trenton to Uphold Religious Exemption against Vaccines
Hundreds of parents in New Jersey plus religious leaders protested today in Trenton what they say is an invasion of their civil rights and liberties a proposal by the New Jersey state Senate to eliminate religious or personal beliefs as a valid exemption to vaccines. Today was the last day for public hearing the final vote will take place on Monday. If the bill passes, parents can still choose to not vaccinate their children, but the kids will not be allowed to attend New Jersey public schools. This will effect 40,000 students. The bill passed the assembly and will go to the full Senate vote on Monday. Bob Singer voted against it. Senate President Sweetie reportedly swapped members of the Senate health committee who support religious exemption with those who will favor the removal.

NYT article:
Jersey City Shooting: Suspect Published Anti-Semitic Posts, Official Says
The firefight that left six people dead is believed to have been motivated by anti-Semitic and anti-police sentiments, an official said.
Investigators are focusing on the shooters’ motives.
Six people including one police officer, were killed in Jersey City, N.J., on Tuesday in a series of gunfights that brought destruction to a kosher market and made a residential area feel like a war zone.
The dead included three people in the market as well as two suspected shooters, officials said. The slain police officer, Detective Joseph Seals, 40, was a longtime veteran with the Jersey City Police Department, according to Chief Mike Kelly.
Officials believe the shooting began when the detective approached one of the gunmen at a nearby cemetery in connection with a homicide investigation and was shot dead, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

Hamodia: First Hand Report of Gunfire in Jersey City
Hamodia.com By Rabbi Binyomin Zev Karman Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at 7:14 pm
“I saw the worker who was employed in the grocery lying face down in the doorway leading to the yard,” said Yossie. “I could not tell if he was dead or just pretending.
Hamodia– Yossie Steinmetz of Boro Park, who works in flooring in Jersey City, stopped into JC Kosher Supermarket to purchase a coffee as he often did. A minute after he exited the store and entered the shul located next door, he heard a volley of gunshots. Yossie was trapped in the shul for hours, and together with three other people who were with him, they began reciting Tehillim as the dangerous situation unfolded.
“There were cheder children in their classrooms upstairs,” Yossie told Hamodia, “but we remained huddled together in the shul, as we heard round after round of gunfire from the grocery and the street. To me, it seemed like a scene out of Afghanistan, with shots flying back and forth.”
After nearly an hour, Yossie went to the back yard of the shul and jumped the fence which divides it from the yard of the grocery. “I saw the worker who was employed in the grocery lying face down in

Professor Against Trump in Impeachment Trial Spent Elul Zman in Lakewood
Harvard Law Professor Noah Feldman, a witness for the Democrats impeachment inquiry against president Trump, spent a few days in Lakewood yeshiva for Elul zman in 2013 at the Bais Aaron Bais Medrash . He tweeted a photo of the yeshiva (see below) Though he has written articles critical of Yiddishkeit against frum Jews and the Modern orthodox schools he went to, he wrote a more favorable article in Bloomberg news about his experience in BMG "Where Jewish Life Thrives in America"
But BMG matters. It matters for the future of Jews in America precisely because it matters for the future of Judaism in America. By privileging ideas and thought over identity, it proudly stakes out a position of genuine durability "Only 5 percent of BMG alumni become congregational rabbis. And 25 percent become educators. The rest are engaged in study for its own sake. They will enter the workforce when they are done; armed with skills of logic, formal reasoning and a type of critical thinking, they largely succeed after training in a professional field or going directly into business. "

Renewed Subpoena in the US Department of Justice’s continuing investigation
Jacksonleaks.com - The US Department of Justice continues to request documents from Jackson in an investigation into the township’s land use laws, with a renewed request coming earlier this year. This subpoena came in soon after the mayor and council decided to walk away from an agreed-upon settlement of a lawsuit brought by Agudath Israel over recent laws banning schools and dormitories. The township is also reminded not to destroy any (more) documents:

Tonight in Chutz Laaretz ותן טל ומטר לברכה
Tonight Thursday evening December 5th 2019 Yidden in Chutz Laaretz begin to say ותן טל ומטר לברכה in Shmoneh esrei. Since this coming year will be a civil leap year it is said on December 5th instead of the 4th.
Tal umatar in chutz Laaretz is said 60 days after the tekufa which is September 23.
in the 20th century – the day which would have been September 23 according to the Julian (Shemuel’s) calendar is October 7 of the Gregorian calendar, and the 60th day following October 7 is December 5. Since we begin Tal U-Matar during the Ma’ariv service, it turns out to be said beginning with the night of December 4. Every fourth year, however (in the Jewish year divisible by four), the Tekufah will begin after tzeis ha-kokhavim on October 7, so the 60th day on those years will be December 6, and Tal U-Matar will commence on the evening of December 5.
Halachos if one forgets to say during the winter:

Trump Administration Proposals could cause Millions to Lose Food Stamps
Three proposed rule changes by the Trump administration could cause millions of poor people to lose access to food stamps and decrease the size of the benefit for millions more.
Over the past year, the Department of Agriculture proposed three changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP or food stamps. The new rules create stricter work requirements for program eligibility, cap deductions for utility allowances and “reform” the way 40 states automatically enroll families into SNAP when they receive other forms of federal aid.
