BOE issues Raised During Press Conference about Fire

The media was in Lakewood at a press conference attended  by school district officials about helping the families and children displaced or left homeless by the fire early Friday morning.  Representative of the Latino community took to the media to complain and accuse that the community has not helped despite promising to do so and that the Red cross has not either helped (they were there Friday morning). She said there are still some families that are homeless with little babies and no where to go. They ranted to the media about not the previous boe meetings that they were not given a chance to speak.

A Reporter for NJ news 12 asked why the requirement to show  photo ID when entering BOE school board meetings  meeting  and said they do not judge the immigration  status and this requirement is due to threats.  District officials mentioned the cancellation of the last meeting because of a suspicious object that turned out to be a empty suitcase but the reporter asked if the ID requirement was made prior to that incident to which the officials responded as yes.
Reporter asked if the ACLU is checking in on the ID requirement officials say they do not know.

  1. Not a fan of the school board attorney, but don't believe anything this "member" of the community says. This is the same person that tried to organize a strike by housekeepers a few years back because $12 an hour cash was not enough, complained about housekeepers being "abused" because they are not served meals after working somewhere for 2 hours, and don't get breaks every hour.

The same person that claims the parents of private school children are "stealing" from the public schools, even though private school children receive $1k at most for busing, and ESL students cost the district $18k per child.

Maybe the board of ed was not the solution for the fire, but that is not their job. (sorry to sound unsympathetic, don't mean to be, but if a local government body was to step up, it should have been the Township Committee.

This person also claimed the Red Cross did not help, when every news report that was on seen of the fire said the Red Cross was assisting.

Maybe a member of the school board trying to take credit where it wasn't deserved, but the person making the claims has no credibility. she is a solution" in search of a grievance.

  2. It's unfortunate when tragedy is politicized for personal gain. Both sides here are guilty if using the fire to promote themselves for PR or to get attention and awareness
