BOE Proposal: Lakewood Taxpayers to Vote on $6.1 Million Annual Increase

updated: The proposal has increased to $6. 1 Million as the distric  is including courtesy busing costs
  • School district hosting Community meeting tonight 7:30 pm at Lkwd high school.

The BOE has put the $36 million loan from the state as part of the budget for next year.

On top of that, the Lakewood BOE is putting forth a proposal that would be voted on by the taxpayers this election day (November 5, 2019) to raise taxes yearly by $2.5 Million dollars for after school programs. This will automatically be raised every year going forward and will take place immediately.
The township will no longer be funding these programs from the municipal portion of the budget.
The township is still paying $2 million a year to cover the cost of courtesy bussing for the public school students not under the LSTA

The BOE agenda for tomorrows meeting explains the proposal. These taxes will be used to fund various after-school Public School clubs and certain Nonpublic Special Education services. Approval of these taxes will result in a permanent increase in the District’s tax levy.

If passed, this would allow the School District to offer various public school clubs and certain
nonpublic Special Education services which were previously funded by the Township of
Lakewood. Starting with the 2019-2020 School year, the Township will no longer be funding
them.

from the BOE Agenda:

1. The following Proposal and Explanation shall be submitted to the legal voters of
the School District at the annual School District election (the "Election") to be held on Tuesday,

increase in the District’s tax levy. The additional taxes authorized herein will be used exclusively
for purposes described herein and to finance expenditures that are in addition to those
necessary to achieve the New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
Explanation:

  2. Reb arthur Lang has led the battle all by himself to change the funding formula. How disgusting that others try to take credit for his work and make it appear as if they are the ones who will get the money by using breaking news stories on friendly media platforms.
Give Nr. Lang all the credit and yes he's not getting paid a high salary from the taxpayers.

  5. It will be voted down overwhelmingly and then they will increase the taxes anyway. They are a bunch of thieves.

  6. I’m sorry but it is unfair to put a greater burden on the taxpayers. If you can’t afford the after school clubs and other programs, you need to cut them!

  7. There is a bigger story going on here. They add a 3rd shift to DEP and 13 more police officers THE YEAR AFTER Coles is re-elected, and DURING the year that Ackerman is up for re-election. The "powers that be" want Ackerman out so they can replace him with their stooge. They are hoping, as an incumbent, he will take the blame for all the tax increases so they can replace him with MR
