Assisted Suicide bill advances in Trenton

This past Thursday in Trenton The “Aid in Dying” bill cleared the state Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee in a 6-3 vote following 90 minutes of often tearful, pleading testimony from people who spoke for and against it. New Jersey doctors would be legally permitted to write prescriptions to enable terminally ill patients to end their lives.
A group of frum orthodox Jews along with other Catholic groups were on hand to protest (see video) and urged a 'no' vote to the assisted-suicide bill but were not allowed to speak prior to the vote. The  Excuse was there isn't enough time. The chairman bent the rules so to prevent them from speaking out on a matter of life and death.
NJ Senator Vin Gopal voted for the bill disappointing many of his constituents.

Sen. Singer did not show up or care to vote by proxy!

  1. The way things are going in this country, in thirty years from now, things like bris milah will be illegal in the more liberal states like NY&NJ. And if they can't find a way to actually ban a religious practice they will heavily regulate it and require it to be done by an MD in a medical facility.

    1. Agudah is focused solely on securing more funding for the former police chief's security firm.

  3. With all the thousands upon thousands of heimishe robo calls we get throughout the year, not a single one about assisted suicide from any one. Not chassidish, litvish , yeshivish, sephardi ,ashkenaz, modern ortho,
    .gooornisht. not a peep!
But they all worry about giyus in ey,
Secular subjects in schools and trying to knock down the new law about yeshivos being sued from molesters. Not a word about assisted suicide.

  4. Not only is there is no obligation on us to ensure that bnai Noach don't violate their 7 mitzvohs, it is not clear why it should be of any concern to us if they do. Are we to care whether they will give din v'cheshbon for it. As to the tinokohs shenishbu, unlike bnai Noach they are shogigin. Is the outcry here then about being obligated to make sure that a Tinok Shenishbe should not have the possibility of committing a shogeg to the extent that we are required to make sure a state law does not provide this possibility.
