List of Stores where Chometz May be Purchased Right After Pesach 2018

List of Stores where Chometz may be purchased right after Pesach.
Lakewood kashrus agencies have yet to compile a list. In other cities such as Baltimore, LA, Chicago they each have a kashrus agency whose job is to service the needs of the kehilla. A Kashrus agency is not only about making money it is also about servicing the tzibbur it officially represents.
In addition to all frum stores who sold their chometz before Pesach
Below is a list of national chains Based on lists from CRC Chicago and star-k in Baltimore. Those lists are for stores in those regions.
(Target stores- one should wait for 3-4 weeks after Pesach since they get food from Jewish owned distributors)
Read this very informative article on post Pesach supermarket scene HERE

ALDI
BJ’s
Costco (Minor Jewsh ownership)
CVS
K-Mart
Petco
Petsmart
Rite-Aid
Sam's Club (Owned by Walmart)
Shoprite  (see below)
Trader Joe’s
Walgreens
Walmart
Whole Foods

Many Central NJ Shoprites, are owned by the Saker Family, which is not a
Jewish family. Additionally, the Shoprite in Tallman, Spring Valley, North Bergen, Fair Lawn, Passaic and others in that vicinity are owned by the Inserra Family, which does not seem to be a Jewish family. The Glass Garden Shoprites in Englewood, Paramus and Boro Park are owned bt the Jewish Mr. Glass, who sells his chametz.

Additionally, any Shoprite with a “Kosher Experience” counter is not Jewish owned.
For Wakefern owned shoprites see informative article above.

  1. your info about shoprite is incomplete as you have to take in to account the distributor and wholesaler who happens to be wakefurn corp a Jewish owned business that does not always sell its chometz

    1. This information is helpful for food that is owned by the individual supermarket on Pesach, not that was owned by the Wakefern collective as a whole.

The Jewish ownership of Wakefern is a minority position, and therefore included in the penumbra of publicly held companies discussed above. Moreover, there is a sale executed wherein the chometz purchases are executed by the non Jewish owners, and the non chometz purchases are executed by the Jewish owners over Pesach.

  2. i suggest you read the very informative linked article which addresses Wakefern and other distributors
this was done very well thanks

  3. Why doesn't KCL have such a list for stores in the area?

    1. R' Shimon Eider ZT"L used to compile a list of approved stores and non approved stores for chometz purchase after Pesach. In a city as big as Lakewood, the local Kashrus establishment usually feels an אחריות to guide the ציבור in this matter, just like R' Shimon ZT"L did, and that is not happening in Lakewood (anymore).
The question is, why not, is there no אחריות felt anymore by the Kashrus agencies?

Answer is because the kashrus establishment does not want to harm the people who pay them by publicizing stores that do not need to do heter of mechiras chometz. Just good business for the kashrus establishment protecting their customers the local stores who pay them for supervision.

    1. First of all there are people who dont rely on the היתר מכירה second, believe it or not people actually do shop in these stores for very good reasons.

  6. The article from Rabbi Haber is from 2016.It might be current or might not.The Minhag has always been not to buy from goyish supermarkets 6 weeks after Pesach. Maybe that time frame does not apply today,no one really knows. We in Lakewood have many Heimesh supermarkets. Why not give them the business? Not everyone needs to buy Enterman's. This whole discussion seems only to cause problems .

    1. A significant amount of the tzibbur does indeed shop in other non frum owned stores they go to shop rite, walmart, costco, target, stop n shop etc.. dont they have a right to know what stores are ok to shop in? not everyone is buying only Enterman's.
Kashrus is not about making money ts about making sure people havae and eat kosher food.

    2. Who said you don't have a right to know ? Tjis has notjing to do with kashrus ,it's simply doing research online and yiu can do the same thing . Even after the research ,a lot of ownership is not clear so why do you expect anybody to put out info that might not be accurate . The person that used to put out this info had statements about Jewish sounding last names as stockholders and board members . Tjis is not real clear cut info and many people found it strange . Do yiyr own research and, stop feeling entitled that you can sit back and have everybody else do your work for you. No heimishe local hashgocha in NY puts out such a list so why should somebody here do it for you. Maybe the national hashgoch as like ou,stark,ok,etc feel they need to do that ,but local hashgochas do not .

  7. For those who don't want to rely on a heter mechira they are makpid to buy from a goy. Unfortunately, with today's ownership of large stores being hidden and may possibly be owned by a goy a decision between two evils must be made. If there was a clear list of researched stores this doesn't be an issue. KCL is a business, they aren't here to serve the lakewood public. Expect the Chassidim to take over that role in the near future.

    1. Right ,The chasidim will tell you where to buy food from Walmart and target . What kind of a joke .You hate kcl so much that you resort to such nonsense ?

    2. Avada. The hisachdus, will tell you where to buy entemans and other goyishe products .

  8. HoRav Beck from BP takes care of ALL the issues at Rite Rite in BP and Paramus ( maybe a few other Shop Rites as well)
ALL means all vendors and suppliers included.
Thus in these 2 Shop Rites ( and maybe a few others) it is OK to buy anything in the
    store - Kosher of course.

  9. Supermarkets get deliveries every single day. The consumer has no idea where the food was prior to being on the shelves. Many wholesale operations are owned by Jewish people exclusively or as major share holders. A true Yrei Shomayim will buy chometz from a reliable yid who definitely sold his chometz before Pesach.

  10. KCL was never set up to be a kashrus organization to be relied upon.
It's sole purpose was not to allow the LKO to get established.
They make a few hundred thousand annually with 1 part time mashgiach.

  11. Exactly and that is,why it's ridiculous for, anybody to ask the kcl to put out a list because it's really impossible to know a few days, after Pesach where the, stuff really came ftom .It's just your typical people who love to hack on anything they think is related to the vaad or Yeshiva.

    1. all other agencies figured it out they put out lists its obvious where the kcl stands.
They were quick to put out a statement when other local stores changed hashgachos. If they cared so much why dont they put out lists.
Rav Shimon Eider ztl did put out lists for Lakewood.

    2. The lists he put out talked about Jewish sounding names. Not everybody thought it was a good idea .Why does the kcl or any body else have to put out a list if they are not comfortable that it's 100 per cent accurate .
And with so many variables as to distributors ,it can't be 100 per cent accurate.

      Delete
    3. The agencies that put out lists are mostly national amerikanishe agencies whise clientele buy mostly goyishe products whatever is cheapest . If they wouldn't put out their lists, their people would buy anywhere . Yeshivaleit in Lakewood don't need those lists .They can do their own research.

  12. This list business is a big bedieved because its impossible to know which distributors stuff comes from after Pesach .Its made for the type of people who would buy in any big store without a list ,so it's better than nothing .

    ReplyDelete
  13. I dont know much about the kcl ,but if they put out one of these lists ,I would look down at them .It's not for bnei Torah . If you don't want to buy from sold stuff , you could have gone to Shoprite in Howell which stocks up on heimishe products before Pesach and has a massive all night sale motzi yom tov . The place is always mobbed and people stock up for the next 6 weeks .

  14. Mr KCL defender, genug shoin with your excuses the fact is that thousands of Lakewooders DO shop in the local box stores such as Walmart, Costco, Target, Shop Rite, Aldi and many other stores you cant deny it.

So why not do a chesed or provide the service that a kashrus agency is supposed to do?

    1. A lot of people here have already answered you as to why the lists are not so good of an idea for us . But your sinah to the kcl won't let you read anything other than your side .For the record I have no interest in being pro kcl or not . I just don't like the same anti establishment hock every year .You are not interested in the kcl list because you don't believe in them .You just want to be able to bash them for something .

  15. Every year we get the same tayna by the same 2 or 3 anti establishment people, who cant stand the kcl .its not about the list .its about beating up on the kcl which these people consider part of the establishment.

    1. every year the kcl sits idly by and does nothing besides for putting out a letter after a few stores dropped them for another hashgocha.
Your excuses are sounding very foolish you just cant put lipstick on a ...

  16. anon 4:52 "putting out a list is not for bnei Torah"

Do you remember when KCL would not allow stores to have a sit down area or be open late
Now KCL gives a hechsher to stores that advertise superbowl parties and platters for the game
The KCL allows store to advertise on a huge billboard with a large piece of meat for the world to see is that for the bnei Torah too?
If its not than by all means they should put out a chometz list for the superbowl non bnei Torah crowd who shop at the non Heimish stores.

  17. Very shvache dimyon. You want the kcl to be totally responsible for every stores ads and because sone stores have ads that bnei torah might not approve of,so therefore the agency should also do things that are not for bnei torah .Sorry ,I dont really care for the kcl ,but your tzushtel is very shvach .
