  1. It's a pathetic way to look at Yom Tov. Should zman cheruseinu be turned ino a שעבוד or keeping up with the Cohen's? What happened to the Pesach at home, having our children see the family work hard physically to banish the chometz and bring in Pesach K'hilchaso? Going away should be a reluctant choice for those who absolutely have no other option.

  3. I have no.probkem with people spending their money as they please .Not necessarily do I tjink this is in the spirit of Yom Tov ,but i dont have tge right to tell others, ehat to do .

I would be curious to do a study of what percentage of this 100 million dollars is being spent by people who are asking for tuition reductions in their schools or who are just behind in their tuition payments .Maybe it's nobody ,but just curious.

  5. Can everyone just please stop judging?! You think it's wrong - great, don't go, and instill in your kids and grand kids the same values. But please, the reason we're still in golus is all this sinas chinom and judging your fellow Jew. Stop it already, enough!

PS I've never once in my 40+ years gone away to a hotel for pesach.

    1. Hello nobody is judging. We,are only saying that at a minimum people need their priorities straight . If you don't pay full tuition ,you should not be doing this.

    2. Why are you assuming that going away to Orlando costs more than staying home? I know people that stay home but spend thousands on chol hamoed trips. In Orlando the kids are at the pool a whole day, no trips needed. In Orlando the kids don't need new robes and outfits. Some people go away to SAVE money.

    3. @anonymous 2:59pm: Assuming that people who go aren't paying full tuition IS judging.

  6. No one is going to sit at the pool, everyone goes to the parks that cost over $150 PP just to get in and than some. Honestly no one who cant afford it is going away, it used to be the rich grandparents sponsored the Pesach hotel and all the einiklach mooched off them.

Now it is more economic to go away with out the hotel option, people are booking flights 3 months in advance to Florida, they rent a villa by sharing it with siblings and they shclep their own food it may cost a drop more but definitely worth doing it especially the weather and spending time together with the extended family.

  7. I know of more than one person that received kimcha depischa money and are going to a hotel for pesach. I saw one person collecting in Shul, and I know for a fact that he is going to a hotel for Pesach. In years gone by, there were cheap hotels for people who needed it. Now all are luxurious affairs.

And too those non judgers, I think we should draw the line. Buying something nice is one thing. Having a lifestyle that is immersed in gashmiyus is a problem and it affects all of us. We can and should remind ourselves and teach our children that this is not the lifestyle the Torah wants from us, it is the opposite of קדושים תהיו and a contradiction to any possibility of real spiritual achievement.

As an aside, when a rich person tells a fundraiser that he is choking, and turns around and spends $20000 on this kind of stuff, kind of makes you doubt the עוסקים בצרכי ציבור slogans

  8. Unfortunately ,there are people, who plead poverty to their school regarding tuition and get the biggest breaks ,and send their kids to sleep away camp and go away for Pesach to hotels .
