In the next few days Lakewood residents will be inundated with robo calls mailings flyers and PR articles promoting the Vaad and its backed candidates for next weeks elections. They will tell you how they were there for us as a kehilla and how important it is that we show a unified force. They will tell you how they are working to lower taxes alleviate traffic etc.
The last few months following the primary elections, the town was in the process of creating a master plan for the future development of Lakewood. Meetings were held by various committees in town hall over a 5 months period. Hundreds of Lakewood residents showed up weekly and voiced strong opposition to the master plan. Residents spoke up about the traffic and density issues how it affects the quality of life. Young and old, Kollel guys, baal habatim, Rebbeim, morah's all took to the podium pleading with township officials about the traffic impact on their daily life as well as the proposed density with no infrastructure. (The few who spoke up in favor were almost all related to developers or had a financial gain from it.) Many residents who dont show up are just as frustrated the silent majority may not want to vote against the vaad but the vaad does not seem to represent the best interests. They claim the density is needed to keep homes affordable but contrary to that statement young couples can no longer afford to buy in Lakewood. Homeowners are watching their taxes sky rocket again and again. As was recently proven all this density is benefiting outsiders who are moving to Lakewood from NY and other places.
You would think that through the whole ordeal the Vaad would at the very least issue a statement or show some sympathy to the community it claims to represent.
However the Vaad was silent not one word about what was going on in town. Vaad affiliated media were silent at times and did not report or provide information to the public. Should we trust them now when they say they have the public's best interest in mind? after they were silent all along.
And if the vaad is pro the density than they for sure dont represent the best interest of the community.
During the highly publicized arrests and public witch hunt of Lakewood residents paraded in front of cameras for the world to see the vaad was silent! when they finally issued a statement they threw residents under the bus and called them "bad apples". Even the LA Times called out the well publicized raids targeting the community. Ironically the Vaad recently issued statements on other matters not related to Lakewood. This makes it even more surprising that nothing was said or done about the master plan. Some claimed that members benefited from the proposed zoning changes, that's claim is up to speculation and not verified, but the silence in light of everything else is deafening.

Jacksonleaks- Agudath Isreal has filed a motion to amend its lawsuit previously filed over ordinances adopted to ban schools and dormitories to include allegations that an ordinance which effectively blocked requests from residents to construct eruvin (plural of eruv) was made with discriminatory intent as well. This should come as no surprise as recent township emails released pursuant to NJ’s OPRA laws (and all available here) revealed the obvious targeting of eruvin. As reported elsewhere, the “Jackson Eruv Association” is considering their own lawsuit as well. The scheduled Lakewood Township committee meeting of November 2nd was canceled and rescheduled until November 8 the day after the general elections. The committee was expected to vote on ordinances that were approved through the masterplan. This was posted on the township website.

Even the Liberal APP endorsed Republican Kim Guadago for NJ Governor over Democrat Phil Murphy. The paper says "She is best equipped, through experience and a fiscally conservative governing philosophy, to address what most New Jersey residents have long regarded as the state’s number one issue — crushing property taxes. Murphy, on the other hand, has made campaign promises that would require tens of billions of dollars in new spending at a time when New Jersey has the highest debt burden per capita in the nation. The paper claims Murphy "has run a campaign built on snake-oil promises to address virtually every problem facing New Jersey by throwing even more money at it. His disturbing lack of focus on the tax burden is dramatized by his campaign website’s failure to list property taxes as a major heading in his issues section." One of the key reasons we support Guadagno is because a Republican is necessary in the governor’s chair to keep the Democratic-majority Legislature’s profligate impulses in check. While Gov. Chris Christie’s tenure was a major disappointment in many ways, he largely succeeded in reining in the Democrats on spending. Let's be honest with ourselves. They gave Eagle Ridge more dense zoning then R7.5. By making it 3.6 per acre on gross, being that more then half isn't buildable that's 7.2+ per acre that's buildable. That was the point of it not being R12. R12 is 12k square feet. Hee there is NO requirement whatsoever again NO requirement whatsoever as long as the gross has 3.6.

Submitted. The facts are being hidden from the public, and here's how. All previous master plans list the specific zoning changes the master plan recommends and why. In this plan, in all 350 pages there is no mention or discussion of which specific areas are being changed, and not even a map highlighting the changes, just to tiny pictures with here's the old map and here's the new. With over 40 zoning changes and no details about them. These changes will have the greatest impact on the future of Lakewood, yet it's all glossed over and lost amongst 350 pages of blah blah. You got to wonder why all previous master plan we're less than 100 pages, and this they filled 350pgs of talk and talk with no substance. The substance in the plan is what's not being written. And nobody on the planning board called them out, the fix is in.

The state Attorney General’s office has filed a nine-count lawsuit against Mahwah and the town council, contending that a pair of ordinances passed last summer discriminates against Orthodox Jews and recalls the post-war era of white flight to the suburbs.
Rather than large-scale migrations of whites from urban areas to escape racial integration, Mahwah passed a pair of ordinances that the state argues unlawfully disfavors Orthodox Jews and deprives them of their Constitutional rights.
One ordinance banned non-New Jersey residents from using Mahwah's public parks and the other banned the posting of “lechis,” or little plastic strips, denoting the boundary of an eruv. With Elections just two weeks away in New Jersey both Gubernatorial candidates spoke out against the Eruv bans in some NJ towns. Republican Kim Guadango in an interview with Hamodia newspaper said "there is zero tolerance for any kind of discrimination on any level in any community". Democrat candidate Phil Murphy wrote an op-ed in the Jewish standard slamming the anti Semitic rhetoric around the Mahwah Eruv. Murphy: "When claims are made in public forums that a particular group “destroys” the local tax base upon entry, there is a problem. When a Holocaust survivor at a public meeting is heckled, and then denounced as a fraud, there is a problem. When well-intentioned residents are disparaged as “paid actors” for a “Jewish money conspiracy scheme,” there is a problem. When there is public discussion at a council meeting of the need to give out arm bands to those who will be permitted to use Mahwah’s parks, at the exclusion of those who are accused of “being dirty,” there is a problem. Hamodia: A related issue. There’s recently been a growth in anti-Semitism in New Jersey. You have it on an official level — Mahwah banning the eruv, Jackson passing a no-knocking bill. Both of these are widely seen as targeting Orthodox communities, saying we don’t want you here. There’s been vandalisms, attacks. You don’t hear any official condemnation of it. KG: Oh, you hear it from me all the time. We have to be ever-vigilant. We have the most strict anti-bullying laws in the country, or one of the most, and we need to be sure that there is zero tolerance for any kind of discrimination on any level in any community. And if those laws are designed to be discriminatory, they should be banned, period.

Official Summary of changes At the October 3rd meeting, the Planning Board voted to have T&M draft significant changes to the Master Plan. Those changes were strongly welcomed by us. Alas, T&M Associates (The 'Professional Planners' tasked with drafting the Master Plan) answers to a higher power! Although they received clear instructions by the Planning Board, T&M went off and befuddled their instructions as per secret instructions given to them by the person who really controls them. See below for how T&M manipulated the planning board's instructions. Planning Board vote: Dualize Cross , Prospect and Massachusetts, add turning lanes to Rt. 9 and only afterward change the zones in those areas. T&M Result: Widen or dualize, Cross (from the corner of Cross and Mass-Jackson), Prospect, Mass and Rt. 9. The Problem? They could technically widen each of those roads by 1 foot and call it a day. The were told we need to dualize, not 'widen or dualize'. Why the switch?? Also, why only dualize Cross until Massachusets? There is a huge buildup on Cross approaching Rt 9!! (Hint - Satmar built close to the road on one side of Cross and ... owns property on the other side). Further, Ray Coles slipped up and admitted that the ordinances are all drafted by T&M and ready for a 1st reading on November 2nd. What happened to waiting for the widening/dualizing? Why are they secretly drafting ordinances to change the zones already? #T&MFAIL!
FAA: The Planning board made a motion that no ordnance should be adopted until Cross street, Pine street, and Route 9 will be Dualized. The Mayor said at the workshop meeting on October 18 "the planner T&M has the ordnance ready for adoption at the November 2nd township meeting.

Not for high school or mesivta not even for elementary school but for the 2 year old playgroup! parents must apply for their 2 year old child 10 months in advance or they will miss the self imposed deadline. The culture of grabbing first only creates a artificial hysteria where parents and even morahs are forced to open registration early because they are scared of loosing out if they wait a few more months. Its not fair for the parents and for the children. So much can change in 5-6 months a child may be held back they may need special services among other factors. We created a panic that only serves the "oischappers" that always look to beat everyone to it, causing a ripple effect that no one gains from. In previous years attempts were made to hold off registration until Tu bshvat but not everyone was on board and once a few playgroups start taking privately, others follow and break the agreed upon start time.

In this weeks issue of the Lakewood weekly someone took out an ad informing Lakewood residents of websites that report with an honest persective on Lakewood issues. The ad says "None of these websites are run by anyone with their own selfish agenda. None of them will not allow legitimate comments or questions. None of them are trying to control you." Its hard to know what is the true motive behind any site, but this is not limited to online sites the same issue is with the print media as well. Newspapers and magazines have the same biases and will spin the news to fit an agenda or to satisfy the bottom line $$. What changed is that through social media and the internet people are no longer forced to depend on the established papers and sites for the news.

In Sedom they fought against הכנסת אורחים the same thing happened last night at the township committee meeting. A family wanted to build a Hachnosas Orchim house for the westgate community in memory of a member who died tragically. They worked hard to find a property and a suitable place for the guest house. After much negotiating and planning they found a piece of property that belonged to the township which was to be put up as a public auction dedicated for non profit. This property sat empty for 20 years and no one even looked at it. All of a sudden some people got wind of this and decided to oppose it. They yelled why wont the township give it up for open space or a park it should go back to the westgate community they claimed. Its ironic that the very same people who are so concerned with lack of space for a shul were silent all along when other kehillos asked to build and expand their shuls.
Surprisingly the committeemen all of a sudden claim to not know what goes on in westgate and want to hear from the thousands of residents but they just passed a one way street sign without asking the majority of residents. This property sat empty and not once did anyone even ask about it but now that someone else is asking for it they are fighting it abi nisht yenem.

Following the signed contract a group asked the AG office to look into the matter. Elections are 3 weeks away and this year NJ is one of two states where citizens will vote for a Governor. Democrat nominee Phil Murphy recently visited Lakewood and met with Vaad officials and some other special interests the general public was not invited. A new poll finds likely voters favor Democrat Phil Murphy over Republican Kim Guadagno to replace Gov. Chris Christie. The Vaad endorsed Guadango in the Republican primary back in May, but as it seems they may back Murphy in the general or make no endorsement at all. Murphy most likely will not get the general Lakewood vote even with a Vaad endorsement due to his liberal left policies and his plan to rise taxes by $1.3 Billion. Lakewood generally votes republican and on a state and national level the vaad's endorsement is of no significance and even locally the Vaad's power has weakened. In the Presidential elections Over 75% of the Lakewood vote went for Trump making it the Trumpiest town in NJ. The Vaad endorsed Corzine over Chrstie in the first term, but Lakewood voted overwhelmingly for Christie. The Vaad may pull a Route 9 surprise like they did with Corzine promising $100 million dollars to "widen the Nine" if he wins, but this time even that would be a hard sell.

The Winter session has begun but for three high school girls in Lakewood they are still at home without a school for them. Parents were hopeful something would work itself out over sukkos but there has been no movement. Hopefully this can be taken care of swiftly and the girls can start the school year right away.
Patch-LAKEWOOD, NJ - Four vehicles parked behind the Northern Resource Center on Fourth Street were destroyed by fire in the early morning hours on Oct. 14, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said. The fire apparently began with a cigarette in a privately-owned vehicle, said Al Della Fave. Investigation revealed that a woman had been smoking in the vehicle, put the cigarette in the ash tray, then fell asleep, he said. "She awoke to find smoke and a small fire in the area of the ash tray in the vehicle," Della Fave said. "She attempted to put the fire out, but was unable to. At this time she notified the Lakewood Police Department." Other vehicles damaged included two Meals on Wheels vehicles and one owned by Gelbstein's Bakery, he said.
This is Route 70 in Lakewood, NJ, which we live just off of. It is a pretty busy highway. Someone got killed 2 miles down from here on Tuesday. Today we saw this while we were sitting in front of our house after grocery shopping. They were lifting the strollers over the median and vehicles were zooming past and blaring their horns! Ten minutes earlier and one of those zooming cars would have been mine.
(Submitted via comment) Talk about Erev Pesach the pressure of getting ready for the Seder, making sure there is no chometz, turning over the kitchen, cooking the zeroa, making charoses etc. Men usually have easy chores when it comes to Erev Pesach its the Nashim tzidkaniyos that are the ones knocked out when we sit by the seder. Its on Erev Sukkos that the men get to feel a bit what it is for the women on Erev Pesach. Talk about the stress of getting the sukkah up, making sure its sturdy, adding 2 new panels, last minute runs to the local hardware store- a screw and bolt here, a light fixture, oops need to run back for an adapter since its 3 prongs, Setting the shabbos clock, putting up the decorations. Then its back to the store for another 6x4 mat for the schach and a fold-able cot for the son in law who sleeps in the sukkah.
Take Back Lakewood: In what can only be described as a tremendous win, many significant changes occurred tonight at the Planning Board.
The Board did NOT vote to approve the plan tonight as is (much to the consternation of JF, Y.H, Mayor Coles, ML and AK). JF and YH came all ready to approve the plan as is with no changes and they refused to allow the public to speak. Their attempt at a motion died when no one else went along with it.
Chaos and confusion reigned as motion after motion was made and withdrawn. Follman asked many strong pointed questions forcing the board to see the folly of the current draft of the plan. When the Professional Planners were asked point blank - How many units would this Master Plan add - 5,000....20,000..etc. they had no answer because they have no clue!! They were repeatedly asked why they are adding increased density when it's clear that we don't have the infrastructure.
Confusion chaos and Circus like atmosphere is what went on at the planning board as members could not figure out what is written in the plan. They proposed motion after motion decided if to table it and redraw the maps with new recommendations. A special Meeting Will take place on Wednesday October 25, 2017
Mr. Rennert made a motion to include all changes of Mr. Follmans motion and have the engineer redraw a map.
Mr. Follman made a motion to change all R7.5 and lower density into R12 and single family detached homes only and that all Roads be duallized prior to implementing the plan.
Planning Board member Flancebaum made a motion to vote yes for the Masterplan on condition that infrastructure improvement and no duplexes in cross street area were recommendations were made to change to R7.5 keeping it as R12 and no multi family.
The motion died.
Members went out for a 5 minute break to regroup.
Blame the Committee not just the Boards
While many are upset at the Planning and Zoning boards the ones who you should direct your anger is the Lakewood Township committee members. The boards are not an elected body but only appointed by the committee who are the only ones elected by the Residents of Lakewood. The committee decides and sets the policy and the boards implement it. The committee will claim they are only acting on the recommendations of the planning board but its actually the other way around. The Committee can stop the density and slow the growth by first improving the infrastructure. The Boards technically must pass conforming applications but the committee can control the density and zone changes. So while the committee will claim innocence and try to throw the board members under the bus or shift blame, remember it is they who are ultimately responsible.

TBL: Why are TLS and Ray Coles and Meir Lichtenstein (and AK) so desperate to get this Master Plan passed that they will even sign away any chance of getting Route 9 widened? WHY???? (Answer - Eagle Ridge, Cedarbridge and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$) FAA: TLS lie exposed! TBL: Earlier today we made a shocking discovery. As part of the Master Plan, Lakewood wants to receive 'Plan Endorsement' from NJ State. In a letter issued by NJ State in February 2016, a condition on page 5 was that Lakewood acknowledges that the State does not have the funds to widen Route 9 in the foreseeable future. That means that in order to have the Master Plan accepted by the State, we need to concede that Route 9 will not get widened!! When we broke this news earlier today, TLS, Ray Coles and Meir Lichtenstein felt that their precious Master Plan was threatened. They quickly concocted a story as a Breaking First Report saying that Route 9 widening is happening! The Route 9 widening project spoken about for years, is becoming a reality, Mayor Ray Coles tells TLS.
Widening of Route 9 has been used a a dangling card by the Vaad and Township officials as an empty promise for over 40 years to get votes for themselves and their candidates. With the heat on and major corruption exposed leading up to the master plan vote, the Vaad and township officials went to their favorite "promise box" and once again pulled out the Route 9 card.
Mayor Coles said that this time its for real as residents along route 9 received a letter from the state informing them of proposed survey work on the right of way property along rt 9 from Toms River to Lakewood.
Nothing is new with that, the state already said they will make high impact improvements. Besides, the township is still forfeiting the right to have the state widen Route 9 fr the time being with the adoption of the master plan.
One wonders if the news was out at least a week since the letter was dated September 25th why wasn't it a breaking news story informing Lakewood residents of this wonderful news? Why did they wait till tonight to post it on the billboard site?
FAA: On Oct 3rd, the Planning Board will vote on the Master Plan.
As part of the Master Plan, Lakewood needed to agree that the State will not provide funds to dualize Rt. 9 for the forseEable future!!
If we approve this plan, besides for creating terrible density and traffic, *we will by our own agreement be throwing away any chance of Rt. 9 ever getting widened!*

TakeBacklakewood-The Planning Board and Township Committee are desperate to get this passed ASAP but they won't explain why. They are scheduled for a vote Tuesday night October 3rd. They are hoping to obtain the State's approval termed as 'Plan Endorsement'. So what's the rush? Since no one in the Township will be upfront about it, we had to do a little digging. The NJ State Planning Commission Lists Lakewood as Endorsed, but "No mapping until the PIA is addressed". That means that a conditional Plan endorsement was granted but until the Master Plan is completed and the ordinances enacted by the township committee, they won't obtain the coveted plan endorsement. We'll tell you a little secret - the is no 'need' to get plan endorsement!! This is all a scheme by developers as Plan endorsement will allow them to build much higher density in Cedarbridge and Eagle Ridge.
Hamodia- By Mordechai Wincorn In the coming weeks, a group of yungeleit from Beth Medrash Govoha will be leaving Lakewood to establish a new kollel in Berlin, Germany, with the goal of infusing the vibrant and growing kehillah that has developed there with an increased ruach haTorah. The group of six kollel members will be led by Rabbi Yaakov Baum, who saw the challenge as a unique opportunity.
