An Assault on our Chinuch System

Two months ago during summer vacation a veteran Lkwd mechanech was brutally punched beaten and knocked to the ground by someone who was upset about the education of a child. The incitement by the frum media and self appointed activists no doubt contributed to this assault. The rhetoric emanating across the board has created an atmosphere of blame and accusing Rebbeim and principals for all short comings and failings of anyone who went through the system. An unfortunate incident were someone R"L died of an Over dose was used as a spring board to openly bash and criticize our chinuch system. The so called rabble rousers were quick to the trigger each one using their platforms to blame and undermine years of Jewish education. They did it from their Bench at the court, through their radio show, voice notes on watsapp, social media posts, they wrote articles in all publications and the drumbeat was on.
Its easy to hide behind a suicide r'L  and then go ahead and bash our dedicated rebbeim and principals. Many of theses self appointed activists have NEVER stepped foot in a classroom or have any involvement with chinuch, but that didnt matter they smelled blood and ran with it. Tisha B'av no longer was about the Churban Bais Hamikdash or Sinas Chinom it was used to further an agenda of blaming the system. There are many factors that contribute to a persons success or failings. They could be family issues, societal pressures, mental health issues, social issues and yes even school issues. But all was ignored and the "experts" knew exactly who and what to pin the blame on!
They also ignored the current opiod epidemic gripping the nation or even any mention to go after the drug pushers. Their agenda is transparent they decided what the symptom is and ran with it.
It is now Erev Yom Kippur that we must ask a collective mechila from all our selfless educators and Rebbeim who have been shunned and victimized by a few overzealous activists let them know we stand with them and wont get caught up in a campaign to undermine our mesorah.

  1. Sorry buddy but the mesorah your talking about has long ago disappeared.
What we have today and for the last 60 some years is made up hogwash ,which many want to use and claim its mesorah/toras avos etc. The opioid and internet are not the crux issues we are facing today. We are facing "extremism" and "my way or the hiway" in the chinuch system. Chinuch is a business like every other business. They do what is most profitable for them.children are used as puns and bargaining chips.

    1. My children go to excellent schools, have excellent Rebbeim, are very happy, and learning well.

Maybe you need to do more research before you choose a school.

    3. That is not true. The vast majority of parents that I know are very happy with their children's school. Its usually parents that pushed their way into a school, that's not 100 per cent in line with their hashkafa ,that are unhappy. They push their way in because they want to feel accepted ,and then complain, when the rules of the school don't jive with their hashkofas and outlook.

    4. Parents who push their way into school generally speaking aren't doing it because they want to be feel accepted. They are doing it because they have been actively rejected.

I don't see why everyone has to ask mechila for the behavior of a few overzealous activists.

let them know we stand with them and wont get caught up in a campaign to undermine our mesorah. I would NEVER publicly criticize those involved in Chinuch. Kal v'chomer not online. However I do have enough questions about the Lakewood chinuch system that I'm unwilling to tell SOME of those involved in it, when I privately question their approach, that I stand behind them.

  4. I agree with this writer 100%, and have been waiting for someone to finally say the truth. It should definitely be printed somewhere. Everyone across the board quickly opened their stupid mouths to blame an unfortunately troubled person's personal shortcomings on others who are blameless. Yes, bash our Rebbeim and teachers. People must learn to take responsibility for themselves and their children and not blame others.

  5. I'm sorry. Nobody needs to take responsibility for their children today. All problems with children are directly to he blamed on the schools. Parents are just too busy to he required to he responsible for their children. We all pay the schools at least 20,000 per child so that we can absolve ourselves of our responsibility.

    1. I agree. The primary blame for children who go down a bad path is the child themselves, to deny that would be to deny bechira.

However if there would be someone who influences that outcome, that person would be the parents. A rebbe or teacher, at most influences a child for part of the day for a short period of time. The child sees much more from the parents.

If the parents act hypocrticaly or irrationally, and the child loses respect for their parents, that has a greater effect than any Rebbe can.

Aside for that, it is common for parents to lavish gifts on their wayword children and to try to entice them by giving them everything they want, all the while, the "good children" receive less, and get less attention.

How do people think the "good children" and friends view this. they see that the consenquences for bad behavior is to actually be rewarded. I have seen this on many occasions, and the short sightedness of it amazes me.

  6. Nobody blamed the rebbeim or teachers. While it's true that there are many factors that can lead to problems in children there is also no denying that the system is messed up. We all grew up where these stereotypes didn't exist and EVERYONE had a place in school even if they weren't the smartest etc. The current system requires all kids to fit the cookie cutter mold and otherwise there is no school for them so there is plenty that has to be improved.

  7. Are you drunk? Nobody is denying the huge impact parents have on their children, that doesn't mean that a rebbi and teacher don't also have a huge impact on children for the good or bad. Everyone in a child's life had an impact, obviously the parents and school have the most impact.
