Nine Days of Reporting on Lakewood

The Media is at it again with their favorite topic reporting on Lakewood  "Tensions" :Crisis" "Complex" "Corruption" are some of the issues that will be covered
NJ.com Over the next nine days, NJ Advance Media will take a closer look at Lakewood, New Jersey's fastest-growing and most complex town.
Each day, we will explore some of the major issues in the community, including the welfare fraud investigation, housing problems and the strains on the education system.
What makes Lakewood unique?
"It's probably the most attractive place in the United States today for a young Orthodox Jewish family," said Rabbi Aaron Kotler, one of the leaders of the Orthodox community. "That's a phenomenon that certainly didn't exist when I was growing up, 20 or 30 years ago. But it's a reality today."
How has the Orthodox community reacted to the arrests?
The Vaad, has said it is "saddened beyond words" by the arrests. This crisis in Lakewood is an opportunity for the community to reexamine itself, the rabbi said.
"We need to look inside," Weisberg said.

What makes the Orthodox population in Lakewood different from other Jewish communities?
Why are there so many Orthodox Jews in Lakewood?

  1. What a breath of fresh air it was listening to what the Roshei Yeshiva said over Tisha Bav. They gave chizuk and spoke about golus no mention of bad apples or placing guilt on the innocent. The contrast is very clear when you hear daas torah as opposed to self appointed spokesman who have Negius and admit guilt while shaming the community.

    1. The Gemorah in סנהדרין sais שנה לרשעים הנאה להן והנאה לעולם, ולצדיקים, רע להן ורע לעולם.

Let the Righteous stay awake and guide us with דעת תורה, while the reshim should remain sleeping and thus will keep quiet.

every time our רשעים open their mouth we suffore more and more.

    2. I'm sorry but falling back on the "were in galus" and "eisav sonei l'yakov" is a cop out. It makes us not have to listen to perhaps legitimate talking points and concerns.....after all we're in galus...

It's true that all stereotyping is wrong but we're just as guilty of doing that as any other group.

  2. What's even more upsetting us the vaad PR campaign pretending to answer a question that it's pretty obvious they wrote up the question and answer.
    http://www.thelakewoodscoop.com/news/2017/07/the-vaad-responds-to-your-ask-the-vaad-questions-media-bias.html

The answer was a whitewasg of the facts on th the ground. The media will distort anything you say and twist your words. Reaching out and getting positive stories did not get too far.Its the silence if our elected leaders and representatives that should concern us.For too long we let lies and fabrications about the community Ho unanswered eventually people believe it. That we don't pay taxes, that we drain the public schools money, that we don't have civil marriages, that we have bussing that were not entitled too on and on the vaad said Nothing all these years. All of a sudden they start with this PR campaign on their bought off website.
The only response was about the bad apples in the community.

    3. Excuse me sir. I wrote that letter to the vaad and no, I am not affiliated with any organization in Lakewood. I am a resident of this town for over 25 yrs. Hyperbole for the sake of hyperbole is not helpful.

    4. What are u responding to. Without clarifying, you make zero sense.

    5. Anon 8:45 am maybe you did or didn't write the letter but the consensus among the guys on watsapp is that the vaad PR machine wrote the question too. Perhaps you asked a basic question but they fluffed it up to get their point out through the answer.
If you sign your name it would be credible.

    6. Stop wielding crazy conspiracy theories! I wrote the entire letter and it was not edited by even one letter. This is really silly

    7. Oh well if it's the consensus on WhatsApp it must be true

    8. It's also ironic that it was the first ask the vaad post can you post your original email where you submitted the question.

    9. The vaad has no chezkas kashrus. Based on the many recent spin articles and white lies they give us every reason to believe that they wrote it or heavily edited the ask the vaad feature.

I wish the media would stop going to the VAAD as if they are the mouthpiece of the people in Lakewood. They don't represent anyone, other than a small group of uninformed people that don't know any better. For the last ten years their own base has not voted according to their suggestions. We all know that they have their own selfish interests in mind, yet they are still asked to speak for us. The media should be speaking the average people on the street and get their opinions, not those that don't really care about us.

    1. And how do u know that the regular person on the street will have anything better to say about us then the vadd. I agree that the vadd should be avoided.

  5. Instead of the vaad listening to the people and fixing what has to be done they double down with arrogance belittling Lakewood residents and taking advantage of the uninformed Kehila members, hiring a PR firm to write nice article about them on the Lakewood Scoop. Taking credit and positive press with any news story from Trump appeal of Obamacare and antisemitism with Chris Smith to sliced bread..The self appointed Vaad is the great and the best

    1. Harold why dont you offer your services on talking to the media and explain to them and articulate to them in the same way you do it on this blog.
You are very capable of doing it and it would be a big toeles for the Masses

I have spoken to anyone that called me. I assume they didnt like what i had to say. I told them that I never saw such an effort to find criminal activity in a specific community. Even Muslims after 9/11 didn't get this treatment. I told them we have some great things to focus on. SCHI for example does amazing work and is a shining example of what every community should have to help special needs kids yet they continue to focus on what is ultimately the persecution of a man that dedicated himself to the pursuit of helping those in need. I told them about bikur cholim. Chaveirim etc. And that our goals are to spread our concern for one another to everyone in lakewood. I also told them that we are being vilified and persecuted becuase of a few selfish people that are sucking the good out of our town with their greed and trying to stand back and act as if they are honest while judging others publicly. We are under the control of a modern day Judenrat. Until we don't go out and vote or enact the faulkner act, they will continue to drag us, and our positive image into the dirt.
But don't worry. 500 new homes will be occupied in the coming school year. I figure that by October everyone will be screaming bloody murder stuck in traffic. Thank goodness they can't cover up the traffic like they do everything else that is ruining our potential. We need to be a shining example of what a Jewish community can make out of what was once a crime ridden filthy blighted town in New Jersey .

    3. Harold your a good spokesperson. Relying on them coming to you is not as
Effective as actively going to them to set the record straight, once and for all.you must be pro active if you want to fight off the vadd. Thank you for everything you have done so far for the kllal .

  6. Nine days under the secular media microscope just as we end the nine days of Aveilus. How uncannily ironic.

  7. Not everyone on the street should he speaking but at least they speak for themselves and don't claim to represent the community.
Even in the above article a lawyer was obviously misquoted or misunderstood. He said you can't lump us all ax one group and we all get categorized as one group "and that's the furthest from the truth".
Now I would hope he meant to say there is a difference between chasidim litvaks sedardim etc.. but not that we are chas veshalom not one unit. The article made it appear as if he was dividing the community and saying those who do wrong are not part of us.

I have been typing on my phone for 8 years now. Nothing has changed. It just gets worse. The last 13 years has been insane. Menashe, Meir and their boss has ruined the potential we had to become a community that took a lump of coal and made a shining diamond. Instead we are reviled, laughed at or feared for what we wrought. All my writing is only my way of making myself feel better that I at least tried to help, but it accomplished nothing. All the bad apples are still in charge. And now they have a PR firm, the Lakewood scoop and Shopper to help them.
Our only hope is to vote against the VAAD AND GET MOSHE RAITZIK elected in November. Show them we will not stand for their selfish control.

  12. The VAAD took the photographer around so much for the positive press

    ReplyDelete
  13. The vaad reached out to the press for thus series of articles. The Lawyer's quote is disgusting and right out of the vaad playbook. To say that we can't be lumped together is basically saying we don't associate ourselves with each other. The vaad should stick to their day job and do what they do best taking care of themselves with the township.
