A Reporters Mea Culpa about Lakewood

A reporter who previously covered Lakewood and the articles had an anti Semitic tone is now singing a different tune  from the first Article HERE
The title of the article is "Time For Honest Conversations About Lakewood"

"Over the past several days, I've been having an honest conversation about Lakewood -- with myself. The words of a reader continue to run through my head: "We are very easily 'othered,'" he said. "We're the guys in the black hats."

NJ.Com I plead guilty to this, too. When I saw Haredi and Hasidic Jews, I thought "diamond district" or "city landlord." Then I saw the poverty in Lakewood among some of the young Haredi. The rusted out Toyota Corollas. The ill-fitting clothes and wigs on some of the women. The men's black suits, tattered at the cuff. Before I started covering Lakewood, I assumed the Haredi would be secretive and suspicious. In Lakewood, I found they'll talk your ear off. 1. Chillul Hashem is a terrible thing, agreed. But there is one thing worse then chillul Hashem.
    Lashon Hora.

    1. If you were in yeshiva and found out someone was poisoning the coffee in the coffee room, you would stay silent because it's Loshon hora? People like.you are the reason we are in the situation we are in now. We are ostracized, hated , reviled and feared because of a few individuals that hid behind the Loshon hora shield. When an original Askan was arrested on bribery charges we went to every store and bought every asbury park press to protect him from the libelous charges.we all donated large amounts of money for his defense. In the end we see who he and the VAAD he helped create really are. No matter how much spin they can put on things . We know the truth. They care about themselves and their friends, not the klal. Trust me if I wanted to say Loshon hora about all these people , i have plenty to tell. We all know the difference between loshon hora and toeles harabim.

    2. Just curious. Where does it say that loshon hora is worse then chillul hashem? Most poskim hold that loshon hora itself is chillul hashem.

    3. Chofetz Chaim says Lashon Hora is worse then the 3 Aveiros Chamuros. And It's Chillul Hashem. Making Lashon Hora worse then Chillul Hashem.

  2. t's called propaganda. The quotes in this article are simply another way to excuse the overbuilding of our town that is causing all the ancillary problems that people complain about. the rapid growth is what is causing much of the anti semitism. Yet he never says that we will be limiting building and will stop trying to attract other communities outside of lakewood to move here.
In 2000 the idea that Lakewood could grow to become a small city was unheard of. For very good reason. It wasn't meant to be a city. It is not near major industries. The roads are not adequate. There is no way to create public transportation in a non grid city. Major roadways cannot handle another city in this area. We don't have a proper form of government, a well enough equipped public works to handle various developments, police or fire cannot handle a city built by various builders with their own ideas of what makes a street safe. There is not enough open public space. The list can go on and on. But money blinds people. Aaron Kotler placed a bunch of people to be the decision makers. Some thought they were doing a good thing. What could be better than helping Jews find a home? Others used the opportunity to enrich themselves.

Whatever is past is past....are solely responsible for the current antisemitic atmosphere we are now experiencing.
Now , where do we go from here? Do we just say let's go for broke? Continue building and angering both Jews and gentiles, creating a need for more services and increasing taxes to the point that homeowners are forced to leave? Or do we stop. Immediately. Create emergency measures and impose a full moratorium on large developments, revert zoning back to what it was before the minions took over, stop allowing new basement apartments, stop building duplexes, stop allowing subdivisions and allow the town to grow naturally.
PR firm did a great job trying to fix the damage that they have done. But in the end a person stuck in traffic trying to get from Howell to Toms River is not going to remeber these articles and excuses. They will see a town that could only grow out of control with the help of corruption and favoritism. And thats when the anti semitism kicks in.

Just a reminder. Chillul Hashem is one of the greatest sins. I don't need to go into detail. Speaking out about what everyone plainly sees is not the chillul hashem. Doing the action is the Chillul Hashem. 17 years of major chillul hashem is enough. Let's stop it all right now.
A new year is starting. Let's make the start of the new year an end to any more chillul hashem.
Stop the building now. Save Lakewood.

  4. The reported starts out with a mea culpa but when reading the complete article, you can see that he just brings up more examples of biases and animosity towards the Orthodox community. When you read the article there's more and more ammunition presented to those who are biased against the Orthodox community. All this hiding behind his very short and incomplete mea culpa.

    Been to Jerusalem lately?
Care to explain it's grid to me?
Cause it seems to have a very good public transportation system

    1. Are you joking! No comparison Jerusalem is a international city where they built major highways around the city. Traffic has actualy become a huge problem there. But they always plan and build infrastructure to support the housing needs. They have thousands of Egged buses light rail train taxis etc..
      Lakewood is chelm.

    2. Try driving down malchei Yisroel on a Friday. Or during rush hour. Bottom, line any place where there is an abundance of chareidi with large families ,there will be traffic issues. There is no way around it.

    3. ypou cant compare a city of almost one million residents to Lakewood township of 120K. Also in Yrushalayim most of the residents o not own cars.
In Monsey there is a pushback against the over development going on same in Far Rockaway. Two wrongs dont make a right
