Bridge Over the Lake or Bridge in Brooklyn

For years residents have suggested and floated an idea to extend Sunset avenue over Lake Carasaljo from South Lake to North Lake drive adding another North west corridor to town. Candidate Yosef Travis  was mocked when he said that developers will pay for it. Now in the Emails obtained through OPRA requests by TBL (see here on FAA) Three Vaad members and township officials discuss various traffic fixes around Lakewood. These ideas have been around for years but nothing was ever done. Now obviously feeling the heat officials are once again discussing the traffic improvements. While at the same time they were vacating streets taking away the traffic grid and creating the mess. One of the suggestions is a bridge over the lake. Questions remain Is it even practical? are there environmental issues? how much will it cost?
Who knows, but for now it sounds good.

  1. Sunset at times gets backed up all the way to powderhorn so no thank you..it's going to create a traffic jam...The people on sunset/neighborhood did not sign up for that kind of life.. how about stop vacating streets that are meant to be opened and open up Arlington for goodness sake.

    1. People on Sunset did not sign up for that kind of life, but open up Arlington?! So because you love on Sunset you want the kids on in Arlington to be killed by cars speeding down a poor visibility street just to make your life more comfortable?

  2. Please, please we can not let this happen. Traffic is not the only problem that overdevelopment has caused. Another big problem has been plain and simple making our town ugly by crowding many houses into areas that were spacious and airy. At least we always had our beautiful lake. How can we make that ugly too? Leave the lake alone and stop building developments in a spaces where 1 house once stood! Get to the root cause, not just the symptoms and let's try to keep whatever beauty we still have left!

    2. I think it is. And btw, the Verrazzano is a beautiful bridge which does not take away from the view of the water; on the contrary, it adds. We can build a gorgeous bridge too, like many other NJ towns have

  3. Yudel Shain proposed this to Menasha Miller a few years ago.
Menashe Miller said a few times "it's in the works, environmental, costs, pedestrian only or vehicles also, etc".

Sorry there was no bakshish, so no bridge.

    1. Years ago, when the only street in Lakewood that was backed up, was route 9 by the lake, then the bridge may have made sense.

The current traffic situation is very different. Where is this influx of traffic going to go once they cross the lake? James? Hope Chapel? Those are not through streets and are backed up themselves?

  4. Why is building a bridge in lakewood more or less of an environmental issue then the tappanzee bridge #1 or #2 which is alot bigger of course. Was a study done or is it just hock?

  7. It will cost a fortune, it won't help much, and it will look ugly. Sounds like a great idea.

  10. I like how the people living on Arlington are in denial that they didn't sign up for it... The street up until a few years ago was opened other then missing some pavement you saw and knew it's a street that can be opened when you moved in there most of the houses on Arlington didn't even exist so you created poor visibility so now we can't open up the street which is meant to be opened?
