Nurse union hangs signs around Lakewood

You may have noticed signs stapled on the electric polls around Lakewood.  Its from the NJ nurses union with an urgent message to patients and their families. It claims that Monmouth medical center southern campus is taking the registered nurses who work the regular units and floors and pulling them to the ICU to tend to critically ill patients. In order to work in the ICU you need months of training under specialized nurses who worked in the ICU. Currently the hospital at MMSC is pulling nurses who were never in the ICU before, to work there. The letter warns that these untrained nurses will be responsible for your family members in the ICU. Same goes with the Emergency room, pulling regular nurses to the Emergency room with no training in dealing with emergencies.
They ask that the public reach out to officials at Monmouth Medical Southern campus that we want trained nurses taking care of our families in these critical units.

    1. But at the same time, don't test it on your family members

  2. I dont know the specifics, but this is being put up by a union that is upset that their workers who were doing nothing tending floors that are empty, will have to work. these nurses were trained to do everything. if they cant- then dont work.

    1. no nurse is trained to do everytging. I dont know the background or details about this story, but suggesting that all nurses are trained to do everything is like suggesting all md's do open heart surgery

    2. no nurse is trained to do everytghing!! Thats like saying all md's trained to do everything...they are not. each nurse is given a limited education across the spectrum and then needs to specialize in certain areas. The nurse may not be aware of the lab values to be mindful of in the icu related to the patients condition. The nurse may not know how to intubate, use the machinery properly etc

    3. most likely that the ICU wanted a raise, the hospitals trained new nurses for ICU and replaced them, and the ones they replaced are bitter about it, but who knows for sure.

  5. too dangerous not to have a hospital nearby -it's crazy that they can't handle maternity/pediatric emergencies - do you think we have a fairly active birth rate?

  7. If the union is saying it, its fake news. Unions only look out for their members, not the public. Definitely not the public school children.
