Canceled: Demonstration against Giyus at Prudential center called off

A large Asifa about the gezeiras Giyus  was set to take place this coming Sunday May 28 at the prudential center in Newark, NJ. As of now the event has been canceled. It's unclear if it will take place at another time or called off for good. Leading Roshei yeshiva and Admorim were supposed to be there.

  1. Interesting. Do any of these Gedolai V'Tzadikai Hador and Roshai Yeshivos have names?

  2. Cancel the event. געלערנט צו טויט אין די געצעלטן פון תורה

  3. Bechadrei Charedim is reporting it was canceled because the Satamar Rebbe had sharp words to say about Peleg Yerushlami and doesn't want to be associated with them anymore.

    2. While TRUE CHAREIDIM resist the wiles of the irreligious from without the phony "chareidim" resist THEM from within. This includes so-called "chareidi" representatives in the Knesset (or should we say that they are simply blindsided by the system?) and, of course, the pseudo-chareidi media... (Ve'hameivin yavin)

  4. It only got pushed off because they are making it with most of the Litvisha and Chasidisha Rebbes in a large stadium. More time was needed for the arrangements

  5. What happened? Why do we need a demonstration? I thought the law was cancelled and anyone who goes to the army office gets a pettur. Has Ponovezh closed down? Are all Israeli bochurim wearing green uniforms now?

  6. It seems like we are long overdue for a 'kinus klal yisroel'. When was the last time we went out therw and announced the fact of our existence? Every few months we need another one, internet siyum hashas giyus, it's always something else.

  8. Can someone explain to me the importance of letting the entire US know of our disagreement with the State of Israel on this matter? Might that harm US support for Israel? Maybe cause a congressman or senator to have second thoughts about supporting an aid package (after all, many of my Jewish constituents are opposed to israeli policy). Maybe inderectly cause harm to millions of yidden who's government relies on that aid to help keep them safe....

    1. That is exactly the tactic. The state of Israel has set up a system were even if the bochurim get a petur there will still be a certain percent of weaker boys that will be drafted against their will. The pressure is directed at the frum knesset members who are well aare of the dangers with the new bill but turn a blind eye and make believe all is well.

  9. The new draft law still includes a stipulation that approximately 5,000 charaidim need to get drafted yearly so that the Ponivizhers and Chevroners... get their draft deferments. That number rises yearly. The army has so called frum recruiters that go after the weaker buchurim and draft them. The is what happened with the continisten in Russia. The Israeli army is a terrible place for even a frum by at risk.
The reason for the stadium as aposed to the street is not to embarrass the Israeli government to badly. However the Israelis don't act until pressure from America is exercised.

Lakewood is a terrible place even for a frum not at risk person.
This all has to do with power and money. Nothing more nothing less.

    2. Right. The reason we don't want young bochurim to go to the army is because of power and money. This comment says it all.

  10. If the State wants to shmad 5000 boys per year then we have to he moiche regardless of any other considerations.

  11. I went to the last asifah when Lapid was in the government but I don't see what will be accomplished with such an asifah now. If anything it will make the Israeli government even more hostile and more convinced that frum people are a problem that have to "dealt" with.

The Soviet Union makes the current the Israeli government seem like Tzadikim . Even so the gedolim like Rav Moshe and Rav Yaakov opposed public protests against them in the US (other than Tehilim rallies) because of the risk of making them more hostile and taking revenge on the Yidin under their rule.

Let the boys make their own decisions . We don`t need draft dodger yeshivas if a guy isn`t learning he should be doing something constructive
They are just asking for them to register.
Stop making a mountain out of a molehill
All of a sudden you are smarter than Rav Ahron Leib and Rav Chaim Kanievsky Sheyichu

If they were calling for it they wouldn`t be anonymous .
Nobody in their right mind would say that it is better for a guy to shirk his responsibility as a human being and let someone else lay their life on the line so he can sit all day in a yeshiva a be meavtel torah
We forget that yeshivas are for learning

      Delete
    3. i don't agree with the hapeles line but just wanted to point out that going into the israeli military industrial complex in order to perpetuate a neverending cycle of pointless wars is not "constructive" and no one is "laying their life on the line" for anyone to learn in yeshiva. rav aharon leib and rav chaim definitely do not agree with making the warmongers into tzadikim who are protecting anyone.
the draft is inherently evil for everyone and we should fight to abolish it, but this is the wrong forum.

    4. This is kefirah. The army is purposely putting girls into combat even though they know its not in their interest. They do that for reasons of pritzus to mix the genders so the nation should be chilonom. That is yehireg veal yaavor. Even some of the religious Zionists are beginning to realize that their hesder boys should not go to the army anymore. The brisket Tov and Vhazon ish would not allow anybody reenlist under these conditions.

But the religious zionists aren`t chicken that they want someone else to die for them .
Many guys whp are not learning don`t go because they are chicken
If a guy isn`t learning he belongs serving and not sitting a schmoozing .
The chet bitul Torah is also very chamur if this dude isn`t doing anything he can at least be part of the yishuv and serve.
Besides maybe these boys want to go serve .
In the USA there are many boys who go to yeshiva part time. What good comes about when we force those kids who don`t want to stay inside a yeshiva?
How many car service drivers do we need already ?

  13. It is not true. In addition to registering ,they are requiring that at least 5,000 bochrim go the army every year. If they don't get that quota then they have the right to draft any bochur or the Rosh Yeshivas have to pick bochrim to get drafted. Just like the cantonists in Russia. Do its not as simple as you make it. Its the beginning of the end of bochrim getting a ptur

  14. Not one bochur has been drafted against his will. That is why no responsible individuals from EY are supporting this. The American Roshei Yeshiva and Rebbes do not understand the politics in Israel.

    1. Such nonsense first of all the Gedolim in EY such as Rav Shmuel Auerbach and Rav Yisrael Kalmanowitz know a Lil better than you. Secondly, Using your own logic the roshei yeshiva on EY do not understand the American landscape and mentality. Do you agree we should not be asking shailos to Bnei Brak about things that are nogea to the American being total and yiddin.

    2. Neither of your named Roshei Yeshiva are involved in the politics with the understanding necessary for this kind of askonus. They are great people, but this is not their field.
The Israeli Gedolim do not generally mix into America except when questions come up that the Americans can't decide. Even then they only gave guidelines, not psakim.

Anyway in this case I think most people understand that this a simple fight between askanim and newspapers and the draft is incidental to the issue. Just because it is far away doesn't mean it is any less corrupt than over here.

Afrah Lepoomei mr Zichron Devarim WHO ARE YOU TO DECIDE!!! You pick and choose roshei yeshiva that benefit your agenda and discard any other opinion as they are not "understanding necessary for this kind of askonus."

    4. Unfortunately Rav Shtainman is not well for numerous years now. Any one who has been there in the last years can attest to it. Rav chaim, a great Tzadik, every one who knows him a bit and knows what goes on in his chatzor knows he is in a different world and is being used by unscrupulous askanim. When the new draft law was passed there was no moetzes meeting about it neither has the moetzes from Degel gotten together in years. The askanim are guided by their special interests and do what they want today unchecked. The American gedolim don't have the pressures that the Israeli ones are subjected to and can speak their minds freely in an objective manner.

The Steipler in Birchas Peretz Parshas Shoftim writes clearly that yidden need the most sophisticated armaments that they can obtain .
The opinion of Rav Ahron Leib has been well known for years nothing has changed.
No bochur should be forced to stay in yeshiva it`s not a healthy system

      Delete
    6. The Brisker Rav, The Chazon Ish and Harav Shach held that even someone who is not learning can not be in the army. They can go to work but never the army. Rav Shtainman can disagree i guess.

      Delete
    7. Rav Shach regularly said that a bochur who is not learning should go to the army. He said it in public. The Chazon Ish is well known to have said "we cannot risk the yeshivaleit for those who don't want to stay in yeshiva". He considered anyone who uses the pettur of ben yeshiva when he was ineligible a 'rodef'.

Rav Shteinman has been running the show alone, just like Rav Shach did it alone. He was the one who told the MKs what to fight about and they do not do things on their own.
Machlokes machers think they can shlep innocent Americans into their private issues.

And nobody ever asked Rav Kalmanowitz his opinion until this new fight broke out.

    8. ZD I see you are not honest especially with yourself. You are a Baal machlokes and should learn to respect other people's beliefs even if they differ then yours. Don't make Rav Shtainman in to an avoda Zara. Grow up.

    9. You guys are pretty much MISSING THE POINT! You're assuming that we're talking about AN ARMY! The military-based organization called "tzahal" is just that - a military-based organization. It contains many different components - a sizeable amount of them DENTRIMENTAL to yiddishkeit. Any organization which has had such an atrocious record of spiritually "killing out" such large numbers of its members is - simply put - illegitimate!
When the "nachal chareidi" was formed years ago it was in co-ordinance then with recognized Rabbanim such as Rav Yoel Schwartz shlit"a - who afterwards had to resign his position due to problems of chilul Shabbos and other issues which could not be properly resolved.
The Israeli army was once upon a time in a critical position where their main function involved risking the lives of Israeli youth to defend their brothers. As such - hundreds of yeshivah bochrim volunteered to join their brothers when the Yom Kippur war broke out over 40 years ago. (This was all despite the fact that the war was won through chassdei shamayim amidst significant blunders on the part is Israeli politicians - who fundamentally had VERY LITTLE CONCERN over their own soldier's lives' when confronted with their political ambitions with the world community.) The drafting board told these yeshivah bochrim to GO BACK TO THEIR YESHIVOS AND LEARN FOR THEM! The situation has NOT IMPROVED today, and Israeli soldiers are basically unable to efficiently protect their own lives and the lives of their brethren while in combat - amidst the ever-present watchful and critical eye of the world press (and the treacherous and corrupt Israeli press as well). Whoever feels that our frum yingelach should enlist into the highly-corrupted institution is being badly blindsided by those propagandists who just LOVE to prey on their naivete!

That`s not the point . So is the business world. Full of koichi veotzem yadi.
If a bachur doesn`t have sufficient chinich to withstand nisyonos forcing him in yeshiva will not help .
These yeshivas want government money but don`t want to shteel tzu to law of the land . Satmar is legit in machoeh yeshivos or avriechim who take are not

  15. Yiddel (I Think you are a Satmar chosid)Rav Shach and the other Gedolim could Have never said that a Bochur who is not learning should go work and not go to the Army. Because as everyone in Israel knows you cannot work unless you first go to the Army (or Yeshiva)
