ויחן שם ישראל נגד ההר כאיש אחד בלב אחד

Who's dividing the town?

What a way to go into yom tov, on a day that we prepare for kabolas hatorah a day where it says ויחן שם ישראל נגד ההר a day of achdus כאיש אחד בלב אחד. Thank you to the vaad for getting involved in a nasty campaign on Erev shavuos calling wonderful youngeleit as "unqualified".

You were silent for all these years and ignored the cries pain and anguish of Lakewood residents who were speaking out. You couldn't find a better time and way to respond than now and create an atmosphere of divisiveness, and machlokes?

What did these selfless members of our community do to deserve this?
We have a list of wonderful candidates that care deeply about the town and they took the time and effort putting themselves out there for the rest of us.

Did you even make an effort to reach out to them and hear what they have to say?
The tzibbur deserves a better preparation for shavuos, than this.

Public Statement from Democrate Candidate Township committee Dovid Gruman

Hi To All My loyal supporters,

Due to the overwhelming amount of correspondence I have received since the VAAD endorsement was released . I apologize for the delay in responding to all of your messages personally but rest assured I will be responding to all of you personally within the next few days. For efficiency I decided to share my thought here in the interim.

I too find it very disturbing that the Lakewood Vaad would write specifically about me that I am an unqualified candidate. They put out separate flyers for the republican and democrat election. I am running on the democratic ticket and I am the only candidate they are not endorsing.

They wrote “Regrettably, there is a vocal effort by several unqualified candidates to divide the Kehilla”

1. They never called or attempted to reach out to me to learn to determine who I am and what I stand for.
How can they determine I am unqualified without knowing anything about me?

Clarifying Misinformation: Vaad Shamelessly Takes Credit For Hard Work Started By Ordinary Lakewood Citizens

 Posted by Takebacklakewood
Amid much misinformation, it is critical that a few points are clarified:
See the misinformation article #1 here.

For the first time ever, the VAAD has felt is necessary to publish a full list of their members. It should be noted, that while they extolled the virtues of most of the members, the main member only received a 1 liner. It should be noted, that the majority of those listed are not active members, and the primary 4 members that meet are Shenky, AK, Benny and Weissberg.

Why is the VAAD scared that frum candidates will be less attuned to the needs of the community? That argument really doesn't fly here. Are they saying that if the VAAD candidate isn't elected suddenly the askanim will stop helping the kehilla? How will the election of new candidates stop all of the progress that they claim to have made? The article talks about a block vote and how it holds candidates accountable. In this case it seems like it's the opposite. the danger is not that we won't have a block, our problems have been caused by the very fact that we have a block of people who are told who to vote for without getting the

Report: Website owner joins the Lakewood Vaad

First amendment activist reports owner of Lakewood scoop website has joined the vaad and is its newest member.  If true , this is very indicative of the vaads motives to stay in power at all costs. To represent a select few, ignore the residents and silence taxpayers who have very ligament concerns. The self appointed vaad promised to revamp and set up a ichud  rabbonim who will guide them.  Turns out it was all talk and now as their is a threat to their power all they do us resort to propaganda and shamelessly call frum upstanding residents who are alumni of BMG, as unqualified.  Actions prove louder than words.  The Vaad was AWOL for the last 15 years it's time to stop the Gneivas Daas of unassuming Residents Who waste hours all day sitting in traffic, Can't afford their taxes and take advantage of them with scare tactics to keep the developers and we'll connected ones in power.

Photo:MK meets Lakewood inventor of Warning Device to Prevent Child Car Deaths

New requirements aimed at ending the epidemic of small children forgotten and left to die in cars, United Torah Judaism Knesset member Uri Maklev, who heads the Science and Technology committee in the Knesset met with a Lakewood resident who invented technology that can help prevent toddler car deaths. The committee accepted several recommendations aimed at preventing the deaths of children forgotten in overheated cars, following a spate of such cases.
One of the proposals is a requirement for all car seats to be fitted with standardized technology that would alert parents should they forget to take their children out of the car. The requirement will be phased in over the next three years in Israel. In addition, Kindergartens across Israel will also introduce a new system for the new school year, whereby teachers and parents will have to notify one another if a child is absent without explanation.

TBL- Nepotism favortism, time for old guard to step aside vote new candidates with fresh ideas

Take Back Lakewood- Earlier this year, Lakewood Township created a new position - Director Of Human Resources. It was a new position - created solely to give the position to a specific person - Trish Komsa - Mike Delia's daughter. A look through old township documents shows that when the idea was initially presented to the Township Committee in a closed session back in April 2016, Delia recused himself.

It's clear that this was never about an actual need for a Director of HR, rather it was a need for a job to be created for Mike Delia's daughter. Some may argue, that this is all legal since nepotism is not illegal in NJ.

It gets much more interesting. In one of her first acts as Director of Human Resources, Trish put out a packet with HR policies related to Lakewood Township

It included a Nepotism section which says that immediate relatives should not be hired or promoted where a relative would be in a position to appoint

With Surplus Money, Why is Township not paying for private school kids

The LSTA is charging parents of private schools $150 per child if they are not eligible for mandated busing. Its what we call courtesy busing and parents must pay the fee. On the flip side Lakewood township is paying all courtesy busing costs for public school students who are not eligible for mandated busing. The township is paying over 2 million dollars from township funds to the Board of ed. There was a 29 million dollar surplus in the budget this year cant they give a another million and cover all costs of courtesy busing for all children? Is the township discriminating against the private school children you cant pay for one and not the other.
More so, the LSTA is using the schools to enforce the $150 fee but not all schools are making parents pay. Some Large schools are letting parents off the hook, which leaves the burden on the parents who have kids in smaller schools.
Its not right to choose and pick, if the township is covering costs it should do so across the board, If the LSTA is charging a fee it should be done across the board. Why is there a preferral treatment?

A disturbing incident

A disturbing incident occurred last week. A lakewood elementary girls school went on a Lag B'aomer trip to Staten Island. At a certain point perhaps the bus was rowdy the bus driver pulled out a knife on the girls said something to the effect  of your lives are in my hands. A brave teacher called the police who surrounded the bus and removed the driver. The school supposedly contacted the parents following the incident.
When it comes to abuse everyone is quick to publicize everything in the name of protecting the children why is there a silence on this story?
what is being done to protect children from such incidents in the future?

Turx: Why Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have a Heter to be mechalel Shabbos

Source- see video below
In an interview with an Israeli website White house correspondent Jake Turx explains the heter for Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump to desecrate the shabbos. President Trump relies heavily on their advice he says, they are from his most trusted advisers, should the need arise or something happens on shabbos the president has to to discuss it with them. So if an issue with North Korea crops up or anything that is of life and death Situation the president needs to contact them ASAP. He must have them to be avilable at his side at all times. Obama treasury secretary jack Lew who is an orthodox Jew also had a heter to speak to the president on shabbos when the president reached out to him.

TBL- Mayor Appointee of Non Lakewood Resident to Planning board, Questionable

Article from Take Back Lakewood- Read full article with references at TBL
Mayor Coles - despite his promises of transparency - has violated the Municipal Land Use Law (MLUL) and the Lakewood Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The Mayor is given a seat on the Planning Board. Since a mayor is often busy helping their town, they may appoint a designee to fill their seat on the Planning Board. On January 2, 2017, in one of his first acts as Mayor, Coles appoints Angela Koutsoris (Zografos) as his designee.

Angela is an attorney at Gilmore & Monahan - Yes - that's George Gilmore who is being investigated by the FBI. In January 2017, all NJ towns that use the law firm were subpoenaed by the FBI - including Lakewood.

So what's the problem?

Nurse union hangs signs around Lakewood

You may have noticed signs stapled on the electric polls around Lakewood.  Its from the NJ nurses union with an urgent message to patients and their families. It claims that Monmouth medical center southern campus is taking the registered nurses who work the regular units and floors and pulling them to the ICU to tend to critically ill patients. In order to work in the ICU you need months of training under specialized nurses who worked in the ICU. Currently the hospital at MMSC is pulling nurses who were never in the ICU before, to work there. The letter warns that these untrained nurses will be responsible for your family members in the ICU. Same goes with the Emergency room, pulling regular nurses to the Emergency room with no training in dealing with emergencies.

Largest Concentrations in NJ of people buying Insurance through the marketplace in the Lakewood-Toms River Area

The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently released detailed data on the 2017 open enrollment period, running from November 1, 2016, through January 31, 2016, for the health insurance marketplaces. They show the largest concentrations of people buying insurance through the marketplace were in the Lakewood-Toms River area in Ocean County and in Union City, North Bergen, and West New York in Hudson County. Lakewood has 3,642 on the plan. While the greatest change in the law would significantly restructure Medicaid funding, which could cost 500,000 New Jerseyans their coverage, there are also provisions in the American Health Care Act that passed the House earlier this month that would affect those buying insurance in the marketplace. Residents have the commiteemen fidget and squirm in their seats

At the Lakewood township committee meeting last night residents lobbed hard ball questions at the committee and Mayor from all angles. Residents questioned how the committee and township boards continue to ignore the will of the majority of Lakewood. They say one thing at the meetings but then do the opposite. A Resident questioned the committee's about face regarding density after a letter(see below) was signed by all  committeemen (except for Issac Akerman) advising the master plan committee to see if and where density  is appropriate for Lakewood. Just a few month before, Committeeman Miller vowed there will be no more density. They responded with political spin and passed the buck, that its up to the master plan committee to make the decision on Density.
First Amendment Activist, called them out for the behavior of the zoning and planning boards, meeting with applicants before public hearings and not reigning in on them. Mr Hershel Herskowitz blasted them for favoring local media companies who give them good press coverage by giving away township land and permits for digital bill boards that most of the town is against and presents a danger to both pedestrians and drivers.
One of the most shocking charge was about what went on at the masterplan committee meeting last week, where developers paid people to come speak and clap, it caused a tremendous chilul hashem as they pretended to represent the frum community.
Mr Aaron Hirsh schooled the township after doing some research and claimed the makeup of the master plan committee is not with state guidelines, is full of conflicts and should be considered null and void.

Hi, my name is Raphael I generally am not comfortable with reaching out to people for money, but after hearing my relative’s story I cannot stand on the sidelines and not do anything.

Unfortunately my cousin – a Lakewood resident- who has a full time job and has been supporting has family of 10 kids ke”h, came on to some hard times, and was recently evicted from his home because he couldn’t make his mortgage payments. The bank confiscated his home and he is now living in temporary accommodations. If his situation does not improve quickly he will be left literally on the streets with his wife and 10 children!!

Lakewood students go to Trenton but can't protest in front of DOE building

NJ.com A dozen yellow school buses made the 45-minute trip from Lakewood High School to an empty lot where Trenton Thunder fans park for baseball games. More than 350 Lakewood school students, armed with signs that read "No More Loans" and "Minority Students Have Rights Too," shuffled off the buses single file to protest what they say is inadequate funding from the state.

The intended destination for the protest was the front of the state Department of Education building. But Sen. Robert Singer (R-Ocean) said there was a last-minute scramble after DOE officials told school administrators the landlord who owns the DOE building on Riverview Plaza received complaints from other tenants about the protests. As an alternate site, Singer said the district moved the students a mile away to the parking lot of the arena where the Thunder play baseball. New home construction keeps municipal taxes steady

Lakewood township has a surplus of 29 million dollars in the municipal budget, but the extra money will not be going back to the residents. Officials said they will put they will keep the surplus money for Capital improvements. Taxes did not go up mainly because there was a increase in ratables from new homes and other buildings according to the APP Budget documents show that new construction and additions last year raised the tax base by $216.4 million. Mayor Coles also praised town employees for shaping the budget. Town Tax Assessor Edward Seeger said that was the largest one-year addition in ratables in Lakewood's history". according to the report the biggest increases in services is:

My name is Yosef Travis, I have lived in Lakewood since 2008 and understand how this town has grown rapidly over the last couple years. I am a company owner and have multiple start-up companies as well as running the largest open market exchange for travel points, with over 500 travel agents and points brokers electing me the director of the market since 2013. I am well known within the travel industry as one of the most trusted and respected and get many calls daily regarding issues within the market that have to be dealt with properly.

Lakewood, being one of the lowest median-age towns in the United States, is host to tens of thousands of young families starting their lives off. It is time for a new face on the committee that represents the young voice of Lakewood.

I am young and have been involved for many years with activism within the community.  I feel as a representative on the Township Committee I can represent the thousands of young families that live in Lakewood and they can feel that they have a voice representing them, as well I understand that the seniors

State gives Lakewood school district $8.5 Million loan

APP- LAKEWOOD - In the midst of a $15 million budget deficit, the Lakewood School District will receive $8.5 million in a state-aid advance from the state Department of Education that will "ensure a thorough and efficient education" for students by bringing back nearly 130 teaching jobs, restoring sports and extracurricular programs and buying new textbooks.

The state aid, which will come as a loan, isn't enough, Laura Winters, Lakewood school superintendent told the Press, saying school officials are looking for long-term funding, "not a Band-Aid."  read more at APP.com

Lakewood School district sends letter to parents ahead of trip to Trenton

The district is sending 350 high school students to Trenton tomorrow to gather support for more funding.

 Dear Parents and Guardians,

We write this to you to inform you about events occurring at the High School and our district as a whole.

As you may be aware due to an approximate $15 million deficit, we are forced to lay off hundreds of staff and severely curtail services and sports. The Board nor the Township want this and are attempting to gather support for additional funding from Trenton.

Our staff and students are very concerned.

Therefore, as a result of legitimate concern of our staff and students and so as to have an organized vehicle to express their viewpoints, we are having our history, art, and language art classes focus on our democratic values of First Amendment rights and freedom of the press over the next few days.

Letter: Lakewood’s LED Sign Problem

Letter to the editor in the JewishvoiceNY

Lakewood’s LED Sign Problem
Dear Editor:
Here is yet another example of corrupt behavior that has the potential to cause serious damage to the residents of Lakewood.
Most residents agree that 40 foot high LED signs that are 30 feet wide dispersed throughout Lakewood were a bad idea. We established that no other town in NJ allows signs of that magnitude on local high traffic roadways. We know that there is strong evidence that they can cause accidents, they are an eyesore, and will surely be another point of contention from surrounding towns already looking at Lakewood in a negative light.

Prices for food and goods go up

The $3.90 cakes at NPGS in Lakewood went up by 50 cents this week  to $4.39 The Yated newspaper is now $3, Ami  and Mishpacha magazine are now selling at a newsstand price of $6. Previously price increases were blamed on the high price of Gas and other cost increases of agricultural products. With Oil prices  stable its hard to know what is driving up the prices. In general market analysts say Inflation is back, after disappearing in March, and it's showing up in a broad range of costs for goods and services. So while the supermarkets competition  currently may benefit the consumer, in the end prices will only rise.
