Shameful APP editorial bashing Lakewood community

They did it again the APP who just a year ago published what many felt was an antisemitic editorial, once again is at it, fanning flames of hate against the Lakewood orthodox community. The Article was cleverly posted right before shabbos when the community is occupied. The headline screams "where's outrage over Lakewood? It then refers to two recent "disturbing stories". One is about the potential shortfall in the budget for the school district, something that cant be taken at face value which was issued as a fear mongering piece by an outgoing superintendent. The other story of the head of a private school who as recently indicted, that has nothing to do with the community as a whole.
The Article omits the fact that the orthodox pay very high taxes and do not send their children to public schools. No mention of a few hundred children from other townships who come to Lakewood public schools, costing millions to tax payers. It spews the same garbage about state mandated busing and makes assumptions and allegations that Lakewood private schools are not certified with the state. It calls  to "Offset the undue influence of the Orthodox community on the school board by requiring that a majority of its members have children in the public school system". That is against the constitution and more so using the same logic no senior should either serve on school boards.
Its time the community call out this paper for the hate it spews and spreads against a community.

    1. I thought it was interesting how Shafran was quick to attack the blogger, but didn't want to "take sides" in the overdoing issue.

The blogger did report inaccurately, but also did his best to correct the record, the other party, are the ones who created the situation which led to the animosity for the last decade.

  5. I blame this on ourselves. If we would act more courteously to our neighbors, we wouldn't become the punching bags we are now.
    Shame on us.

    3. With some of the Tom's River and Jackson strong stuff you may be correct, but they have been attacking the Lakewood School District and the Orthodox for "corruption"for a decade.

Even after only mandatory funds are given to non public school children, and the State Monitors are controlling the purse strings, they still attack the Orthodox (and give the state monitor, who has real control, a pass).

This is a the moDeen day blood li el, blame the Orthodox for suckling the public school dry, when it is the Orthodox who are being taken advantage of.

    5. The Maharam rottenberg said something along the lines of, "If we would act more courteously to our neighbors, we wouldn't become the punching bags we are now. Shame on us."

  6. What does acting courteous have to do with the APP blatant lies. The school district is short 14 million dollars. Even if you say that there might he 2 million dollars saved if we didn't have lsta , there is still a shortage of 12 million dollars. This is due to a flawed school funding formula. We take no other non mandated funds. So the APP and the seniors are lying through their teeth. This has nothing to do with courtesy.

  7. Lots of waste with after school and other non mandated programs. The Pr K program was initially funded by the state is the state still paying for it now? or the trial has run out and now tax payers are left paying for a program that is not mandatory?
There is lots of waste and corruption going on in the district but instead they blame the orthodox. What a load of Bunk.

  8. No one should talk to any APP reporters anymore. Stop all funding for legal ads.

  9. The Asbury Press does not deal in reality, Just fake news and spin to sell papers. Our town should immediately stop all LEAGAL adds in this rag of a paper.

The system is obviously broken. Now what do we do? Blame those that blame us? Constantly having to answer ourselves to critics, no matter how off the mark they may be, is not a way to continue. Perhaps the time has come to change the way things are being done. A few years ago there were people like Aaron Lang that had ideas that could change the educational funding system . Perhaps it's time we started to listen.
