Another hit piece on the Lakewood community

First it was the WSJ now The Star Ledger joins in with a one sided bias article spewing more propaganda and myths about the Lakewood Orthodox community. Together with the the comments section and you have another article that is full of the continuous distortions, lies and accusations about the community. The favorite one of residents not paying taxes is trumpeted throughout the article and blames the fiscal woes of the school district on Tax exempt properties of the orthodox. The fact is, not only are Lakewood residents paying very high Property taxes with the bulk of it going toward education, but they send their children to private religious schools, so there should be enough funding for the district. The popular belief that somehow Lakewood residents are gaming the system and not paying taxes has been thoroughly debunked see HERE.
Secondly, as pointed out by others, the article fails to mention the lack of State funding despite the public school enrollment up by over 1000 students, the state has not increased its share in the last 4 years due to the funding formula.
The article failed to mention that the orthodox community voted to increase taxes and give the pubic schools an additional 34 million dollars for capital improvements. Many complaints about the high cost to educate special Ed students but no mention that these expenses are state mandated services.
The  Clueless author is encouraged to look into another favorite Lie about the Orthodox who dont legally marry so they can game the system. He responds that he will check pubic records and report his "findings".
As one comment summed it up
"The fact is the district is underfunded by the state especially since the district added 1000 public school students since the state froze funding 4 years ago. I didn't see one mention of you speaking to community members before writing this article. While every community and town has its issues especially one growing this quickly. A bit more research should be done instead of just looking for a juicy headline."

  1. What a shoddy and shallow report the information was fed by the seniors who met with the reporter. How do you call it journalistic integrity when you write about someone without talking to them. Pure hate.

  2. You can not mention our community and goyim without having hate in the conversation. That should not be.

  3. Not a word from the committee about this? They should call out these articles for the lies spread about lakewood.

    1. They're too busy approving new construction to concern themselves with libelous defamatory articles.

Mark good first article. We appreciate you coming to Lakewood to meet and interview us all. You have hit all the top line issues, but now the digging must start. You have to get deeper into each issue because we need the truth to come out once and for all. The future of Lakewood has never been this tenuous, and we need the facts exposed be they good or bad, the citizens deserve the TRUTH FINALLY..... "

  6. Sure! Blame the newspapers!
We have our own homegrown mosrim who spread lies, innuendo and propaganda for their own purposes. Let us fix them and at the very least not support them, before we call out 'others'.

    1. You must be talking about mosrim who oppose shuls. Like Westgate and avreichim.but if your looking to blame others and not the newspapers blame none other than those in power whose actions give us a bad name. Stop trying to shift the blame on the bloggers.

    2. Actually I didn't mean bloggers. But the bloggers, with their indiscriminate posting, allowed a situation to develop that feeble minded people who take suppositions as fact, will do the vile messira that we all heard about last week, demanding a criminal investigation of someone because he 'might have done' something untoward.
Messira has become a way of life here, harassing people with phony wrongdoing claims, forcing them to expend time and money for nothing. Just because some people may be doing harmful things to others does not mean that it's ok to put out accusations against everyone just in case

    3. No frum yid demanded a "criminal investigation" on another yid. Stop making up stories. The investigation was done by the state and the secular papers with glee played it across their front covers.
Mesira is unfortunately going on by throwing fathers out of their homes in divorce cases and stopping shuls but that didn't seem to bother you.

    4. CPA and MD. You are completely correct. We must stop with the messira and phony allegations before we become numb to all of it. We are in golus and must focus on the anti-semites writing these hit piece articles, not yid against yid.

    5. so Mesira is only a problem when it effects you but to stop a shul in Westgate there was silence from the powers who run the town. No one stood up to the moisrim all of a sudden now that it's hurting you in the pocket you are yelling mesira.
