What was the LSTA created for?

The LSTA sent an opt in form to parents of non mandated busing to join the LSTA busing but will have to pay a $150 per child fee. The form said that the Department of Education does not provide transportation for children who live between 0.5 and 2.0 miles from school. All along askanim promised that it was done to save courtesy busing. even Gov. Christie wrote  "This bill ensures all nonpublic school students can get to school safely, while easing the financial burden on the district in providing courtesy busing to address its unique safety concerns". Yet the township is paying all courtesy busing costs for non mandated public school students. in a Hamodia article about the new
consortium "The key factor pushing the legislation was that amid perennial budget woes, this year the district has canceled “courtesy busing,” transportation for students living within two miles of their schools. The bill effectively saved this service. However, parents who rely on it (whose children are receiving transportation) must contribute $150 to a fund to fully cover costs.
The fee is necessary to make up for the loss of “aid in lieu” that is being returned to parents rather than going to the fund."

Not only are Lakewood taxpayers paying for courtesy of public school students but now parents are paying close to $500 a year (including Sunday busing) for busing while many kids even those that are mandated dont even have busing yet.

  1. It was created so the big schools can get their busing fully covered and right away while the small schools get spit in the face with no service and just get scammed into this corrupt busing program that was made by these big school askonim

    Such a chillul Hashem

  2. The LSTA was created so the big schools and those with protektzia will have bussing no matter what happens. My daughter still doesn't have bussing one way and the other way gets her to school 20 minutes late meaning I drive her most mornings. I've lost all faith in the leadership of this town and I am looking ttoove out.

  3. this whole LSTA is a scam. it was meant to help out the public. instead it is robbing everyone. The township did not build an infrastructure to be able to have kids walking.
Time in an again, there is no crossing guard at teh corner of Oak and Route 9. there is no sidewalks on oak for kids to walk to school.
there is no sidewalks on most of route 9.
how can they charge for bussing when there is no safe way to walk to school?

    1. You are missing the boat! The LSTA can't provide crossing guards or get you funding for unsafe roads.... They are working with the funding they were given....

Go lobby the government to add funding , but your complaint on the LSTA is unfounded.

  4. Sunday bussing is not government funded, all kids have to pay mandated and non-mandated. The fee for sunday bussing is generally $150, so not clear how you came up with $500. Either way - Totally unrelated to the LSTA....

"many kids even those that are mandated dont even have busing yet"

False - the vast majority of mandated kids do have bussing.

The fact is that there isn't enough money to completely covered the costs for all mandated and non-mandated kids Lakewood. $150 per kid is alot less than the unsubsidized cost.... If you want to lobby the government to provide more funding, go right ahead, but don't bash the LSTA for things it doesn't control.

    1. Chaim,
Do you work for the LSTA? You are on almost every post about bussing saying how they are so needed. Yes, it's a free world, and you are free to Post. But something is fishy.

  5. If they want me to sign in order to get next year's bussing, fine. But they have no halachic right to charge me for this year

Do not pay! Don't allow them to bully you as though not paying makes you a 'party pooper'. They owe us all, we don't owe them. Remember, they took your money already. The state gave YOUR money to them. They are doing you no favors by arranging bussing. You paid them already

  6. Is the LTSA better than the alternative, Yes, can the LTSA improve? yes. To say that it didn't accomplish anything is a little disengenuos.

    1. Call the agudah office and have them answer your questions, because ad far as most people are concerned this was already paid for by the state. If agudah doesn't help then make a petition and send a letter to the state.

  7. They promised the world when they made the LSTA now it didn't turn out to what they sold it as.

  8. How do you know it is better than the alternative? They can't force us to trust them. Unelected characters have no right to claim to represent us. I don't know who this LTSA is supposed to be, nor who did the job before them. But they cannot demand my money without a right

    1. The alternative was only bussing for mandated kids and NO bussing for non-mandated kids

    2. so why did the township pay for non mandated public school kids?

We're by March 7 months and many mandated kids still have no transportation! !!

Why did courtesy kids of big schools get busing right away?

How much are the administrative costs?

    3. I think the Township is paying for the public school non-mandated kids as part of the deal to have funding (incomplete) for the private non-mandated kids which is a much higher number.

Actually very few mandated kids still don't have bussing. What are you basing your numbers off?

Big schools have much shorter routes, as such bus companies are much more eager to pick them up first. A full bus route from a big school can take 20 minutes vs a route from a small school that will have less kids and take 3 times as long....

    4. These are lsta talking points but doesn't justify why all non mandated kids received bussing before all mandated children. The big schools had their puppets on the consortium and took care of themselves first.

    5. To the comment at 7:27, I wrote a comment about how LSTA was better then the alternative, but supporting how they gave the non mandated large school children priority, is a bridge too far.

I am not complainimg aboit it, even though i have a mandated kid without bussing, but if they do the same thing next year, and don't learn from their mistake, i'll be making a lot of noise about it.

  9. Sue the township for discrimination they can't give free courtesy bussing to non mandated public school kids but charge $150 for non mandated private schools.

    1. This is the one comment that makes sense, The State isn't giving money for any non mandated students, it is the Township that is discriminating.

  12. I'd like to see a full disclosure of their operating budget. If I'm correct, they allocated $500,000 for administrative costs.. I'm curious what the Executive salaries are.. I'd bet the executive salaries are double what they'd be in the real world.. $150,000 of savings would pay for 1,000 kids instead of charging the parents!!!... Drain the swamp!

    1. There was no money in the budget allocated for operating expenses that's why they are charging a fee. But the cheder said they won't ask parents to pay.

    2. The question is, is the Cheder being billed by the LSTA, and covering it out of their own pocket, or are they getting A "discount" from the LSTA.

I would assume the former, but it would be reassuring to know.

    3. assume nothing because the cheer is not paying an extra dime. The LSTA needs the cheder, Cheder does not need the LSTA. they can open their own bus company if they wanted also since the boys school is in industrial park most of the kids are mandated.

      Delete
    4. Then let tje cheder open their own buss company. There are 20,000 private school students in this town that do not go to the Cheder.

    5. You are wrong or a troll posting misinformation.. There was money allocated for overhead which included salaries.. It's coming out of the funds given from the state.. Have you ever called them? (and gotten through?). There's two girls a computer or two and a copy machine in super cheap office space in industrial park.. And the executive himself..who is never ever in the office... You should be asking for a cheshbon of $500k in overhead costs before they get a penny of your "zayas apecha"..

  13. Here is an idea, all monies collected from non mandates parents should go into an escrow acccount controlled by a 3rd party. If at the end of the year the LSTA gets enough aid in lieu funding to cover the costs than the money in escrow should be returned.
