  2. Forgot to mention that Ackerman is only one that voted against it.

  3. It stinks really really bad........
Why would Coles accept this considering the public outcry.
Ackerman is the only one who thinks about the community's good, and refuses to be a puppet.
It's time to drain the swamp.

  6. Its about time that this happened. We don't vote for party. We vote for people who serve us. Why should one party control every year ? This is a bipartisan way of doing things right.

    1. Wrong! Akerman went out on a limb to go against this. In the past the vote has always been unanimous - and they themselves for "working as a team". There's no way they wanted him to go against it, and I know this for a fact to be true. I'll leave it at that.

    2. Excuse me, but it is Ackerman who signed off on the current cedar bridge shopping center application and the other huge 80,000 sf daycare & office development, both currently on the Planning Board Agenda for tomorrow night.

  14. Rabboisai, let's be more than just armchair quarterbacks here! Get involved and do something about it!

Start with showing up at the township committee meetings (next one on Jan 19 I believe) and step up to the podium to voice your displeasure. These meetings are open to anyone of the public getting up and speaking up to 4 minutes. You don't have to be a good speaker at all. Just get up and ask 1 or 2 very simple and innocent questions. "How could Miller (a Republican" cross party lines and vote for Coles (a Democrat)?" or "They talk about voting for what is 'right' for the town (rather than Republican or Democrat) - so can they please explain what is so wrong about D'elia being Mayor - especially after he'd previously come out and said he was ready to start taking concrete steps against unbridled growth in this town (e.g. by proposing anti-growth ordinances, etc)?". That's all you need to do! And then wait at the podium and tell them you expect an answer.

If you want to ask harder-hitting not-so-innocent questions - then ask them things like "Can you please comment on the Vaad's agenda to ensure Coles got the Mayorship over D'elia?" or "What threat or other offer-he-couldn't-refuse was made to D'elia to turn him?".

Coming out and stepping up in public is infinitely more effective than a few anonymous posts on a blog. If you really want to make a difference, this is what you got to do. Many of you have already done so - and kudos to you. We need more of you, otherwise they (the Vaad and their puppets) will continue trying to get away with the excuse that "it's only a bunch of anonymous blog posters plus a few "yechidim" who speak up at the meetings".

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ironically, it is the Bnei Heyeshiva, and their Alumni, who are suffering.

There is a difference between BMG the Yeshiva, and BMG Inc. They serve different purposes, and have different leadership.

This growth will be the downfall of the Yeshiva and any influence it may have. In the past, most of the town was the Yeshiva and it's alumni, the past couple of years and the future growth is a different community with zero ties to Yeshiva.

The VAAD, knows this, and they are making their final push to get what they can out of it, while they can. What will be left afterwords is a town that the Bnei Heyeshiva will not want to live in.

    2. Call yourself Bagdad Bob Most of lakewood don't know who this mysterious anonymous VAAD is. They don't put their names on anything they sign. The public was never invited to any vaad meetings. They were never voted in by the tzibbur or appointed by any of the tax payers. Vaad members have conflicts of interest that should disqualify them from officially representing or advocating for the frum community of Lakewood. Until those issues are cleared up they are nothing more than a self appointed vaad taking care of themselves. They should not call themselves a vaad that represents the Community.

      Delete
    3. "All they truly care about is the community" How can you honestly say this if you live in Lakewood and drive on the streets.

If all they care about id the community, why are they getting involved in real estate development? When the town gives certain people sweetheart deals, who do you think is paying for it?

Maybe if you are still renting an apartment and haven't been here this long, your naivete can be excused.

People are bringing up legitimate concerns and it is the discussion in all lakewood homes. Don't blame blogs or haters or label people as bitter, it's real and the Hamon Am has had enough. The vaad represents only the BMG and affiliates interests, stated clearly in their mission statement that all members must sign and uphold.

Let the taxpayers vote in by democratic vote a "Zain-tuvai-ha'ir" 7 people elected to represent all interests.

  34. The Roshei Yeshiva in order to demand the respect of the oilam, must disassociate themselves from the vaad.
The vaad's standing is at an all time low.
The major issues of traffic, high density building, spot zoning for schools, under the table land sales, are really at the forefront of the community's mind.
Every person sitting in a car in traffic daily on Route 9 or oak street, mutters to themselves how they blame the establishment for this. Every yungerman who sees a rise in his tax bill year after year is in uproar.
Someone has to step up to the plate - together with Ackerman - & put the tzibur's interest first.

  35. An Ordinance of the Township of Lakewood, County of Ocean, State of New Jersey, Approving the Pilot Application and Authorizing the Mayor and Township Clerk to Execute a Financial Agreement By and Between the Township Of Lakewood and Erez Holdings Urban Renewal, LLC/LTC
Consulting Services Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:20-1, Et Seq. for Property
Located at Block 961.01, Lot 2.06, as Shown on the Official Tax Map of the
Township of Lakewood Located in the Cedarbridge Redevelopment Plan Area.

Mayor Akerman opened the meeting to the public.
    10-8-15 7
Mayor Akerman explained that whatever money is brought in by these projects,
through the PILOT program, are commercial ratables, so they do not get any services at all, such as bussing, public schools, or trash collection, so the money is all profit.
As to the figures, the municipal auditors took about a month to work through the numbers. The PILOT programs have certain formulas and are standard procedure.
Mayor Akerman explained some of the projects are very large, and they are trying to encourage commercial growth. Many people are saying “no more housing”, so this is the answer to no more housing, where the Township offers incentives.
Over the last few years since he has been a member of the Township Committee, each year, the commercial ratable base has increased by about fifteen million dollars per year, and he believes the 2016 year will be even better. Mr. Henshaw added that thirty years is the maximum. That can be changed after a certain period of time if they are not satisfied.
Michael Bruno, Esq., the Attorney for Erez Urban Renewal advised that this is a New Jersey company that will bring a lot of jobs to Lakewood. The PILOT is a win-win scenario. The way the law works, because they are in a redevelopment area, the town has the authority to grant a PILOT, which allows them to keep a higher percentage of the PILOT dollars versus conventional taxes. The benefit to the
developer is that they save some money and they have a uniform payment schedule over the period of the PILOT, but the benefit in this particular instance to the town
would be over 1.3 million dollars over the thirty year term which is additional money
that the town is going to get.
