Why such a short school day?

The Friday schedule in Lakewood for some of the girls schools is getting shorter and shorter. Girls are going to school for just about 1 hour on Friday. The buses dont get there before 9:40 and at 11:15 girls are getting dismissed! Yes busing is an issue, but its not fair for the kids and for the parents who now have to shorten their Friday workday even more. Something has got to give. The overall Friday schedule in Lakewood should be changed.

  1. Why don't you come up with solutions instead of just complaining about something that everybody knows is a problem. There are not enough buses in Lakewood to make a 12 pm run for every school. We are waiting for you to come up with a solution. Everybody knows the problem. We need solutions not blog posts

    1. The solution is very simple. The town schedule can no longer be dictated by playgroup moros schedules. In Brooklyn, schools end on Friday during the winter at 1 o'clock. Lakewood is not a young town with couples leaving to NY on Erev shabbos. Most businesses finish Friday work day at 1:30- 2:00 pm on the short Winter Friday's. Even the Yeshiva first seder is cut short on Friday because of the playgroup schedule.

Now that the Busing is no longer controlled by the BOE the schools and town leaders should focus on making Lakewood a 1:00 pm Friday instead of 11:30.

    2. First part of a solution is recognizing and bringing the problem to the fore.

  2. Everybody knows the problem. The amount of buses needed to bus everybody st the same time either 13 or 12 30 are about double if what the bus companies can provide. You can't expect a bus com0any to but hundreds of buses and spend millions of dollars because if our Fridays needs. Its not economical. It has nothing to do with playgroup. The schools want to change the time back to what it was a few years ago but there just aren't enough buses.

    1. They can stagger the times have the girls end school at 12-12:30 and boys end at 1- 1:30 it can be done. But people are lazy and we are beholden to old habits.

  3. I agree that my girls are home by 11:35! We pay more tuition every year regardless if the hours get cut back:(

  4. The bus companies will not be able to service 1:00 runs as they have public school runs and runs out of Lakewood at 2:00.

  5. Simple Solution, enact an immediate Moratorium on new building permits until our NUMB leaders et al wake up to the disaster they've created!

  6. No point in going to school for one hour of classes. N. J. law prescribes a school day to be a minimum of four hours. Winter Fridays would not qualify.

  7. Its not one hour but close to 2 and a half hours. If learning the weeks Parsha is not important to you then don't send your daughter.
