Video: גֶּשֶם or גָּשֶם

We started saying משיב הרוח ומוריד הגשם, should we say Geshem or Gashem? Lakewood youngerman explains.

  2. I checked some old siddurim that were about 400 years old and they were geshem Not Goshem.

  10. I think it got confused with another related story. I heard from an adam gadol years ago that R' Shlomo Zalman retracted his psak the second he heard R' Moshe said komatz. He was mevatel daato legamri to R' Moshe

  13. This rabbi is wrong. When piyutim are added to a beracha of shemona esre, they are only put in where there is a paragraph break. That is why the piyutim of geshem and tal are said after the words אתה גבור לעולם ה מחיה מתים אתה רב להושיע, because there's a break there, otherwise there would be no heter to say piyutim in middle of a beracha.

    Chassidim are makpid to say Geshem al pi kabala. Numerous stories of various tzadikim and geonim enforcing this.
