TVOL- Planning chairman" Vacating paper streets ruins the infrastructure in Lakewood"

An interview in last weeks issue of the Voice of Lakewood, The chairman of the Lakewood township planning board explains how Growth in itself is a good thing but there is something wrong if there is no infrastructure to support it. Additionally, he explains the planing board can not deny an application due to the poor infrastructure in town if the applicant is not asking for any variances.

  1. Does he have a degree in urban planning? It's a sad joke but I highly doubt any of the board members have the slightest clue about planning and infrastructure. Being that are town is not functional in it's present state, only trained professionals
(With no personal interest) should be deciding what our roads can and can not sustain.

  2. Oy. I can't type any more . My thumbs hurt. Suffice it to say this is written on an incorrect premise. All areas in town must be rezoned during a moratorium. There is no room for growth .this is not Jerusalem. There is no bais hamikdosh here. We are not greeting moshiach here. But we are causing a lot of chillul Hashem and loss of money to taxpayers. Building more never pays,it costs!

  3. I really don't understand. If some people are so unhappy here and hate the people who are running the town so much ,then they have a simple solution. Sell your house for a huge profit and move to Toms River or Jackson. Its so,much nicer there. You have all the Jewish amenities of Lakewood without the terrible things you are complaining about. And you will have a much nicer house and backyard. Why spend your life complaining and being bitter.

    1. 1. The difference in price is not so much 2. I invested a lot into my house. 3. My kids have friends and i like my neighbors. 4. My kids will still go to school in lkwd my extended family will still live in lakewood, stores are in lkwd so I will still have to deal with lkwd traffic. Most of lakewood agrees with me (based off voice poll and fnw) there is no reason why we cant change things here. There is no reason why because of a few yechidim out to make a buck everyones life has to be miserable.

I'll stipulate that he can't deny if they're not asking for variances, but they're all asking for variances and they're all getting approved!! That's the problem here!!!!
And he's right about the paper streets. They were thought out me designed with an eye to the future. The township playgroup, uh, I mean committee doesn't really know what they're doing; it's quite obvious.

    1. While I commend the planning board for denying the 3 office buildings on County Line, I was disappointed that the Chairman voted to approve it.....

    2. The Chairman approves almost everything. Not only that, he drags out applications with ridiculous questions to discourage people from stopping in. He needs to be removed.

  5. "To me there is noting wrong with growth" That first sentence in his response explains succinctly why our town is a disaster.

    Mr. Neiman,
Please resign and allow people who reflect the wants and will of the residents to to take your place.

Finally (and I hope this does not get edited out), why isn't it a valid question for a journalist to ask someone who sits on these boards whether they have any financial interests in properties in the town that require variances or that are going before the planning board? In any sane place, such a person should not sit on the board at all!!

    1. Sense doesn't play a role here. According to a NJ supreme court ruling it is legal to bring an application in front of a planning board that you sit on.

    1. Westgate shul got the run around from the planning board and people have no where to daven. The board who were contacted prior by the raffia pretended to be so sympathetic to bogus traffic and safety concerns, the chairman did all he can to push it off and flip it to zoning. It was a conforming application for an existing shul to this day fathers and children have no where to daven there are no seats yet the board continues to dish out approvals and variances for the well connected.

    2. Since you keep bringing this up, did you have an application before the zoning board that got denied? You obviously aren't paying enough to get it approved....

    3. Its ironic how the justification for having frum members sit on the various township boards was always to help shuls schools mosdos and yeshivos. Its now the opposite where shuls have a hard time and get the run around while well connected developers sail right through.

  9. Dear Hefkervelt,
I was very dismayed to see in this weeks edition of TVOL an article/ad written by Simmy Horwitz titled, "Yidishkeit Under Attack" How the Chinuch in Eretz Yisroel is swiftly being corroded.
And she writes as follows, "Limudei Chol has been extended to encompass more hours of the day. Certain textbooks, written from a secular perspective, have become required teaching material. Specific topics, such as Rosh Hashana - have become forbidden to teach. Torah topics, such as Parshah, Yomim Tovim, Hashkafos and more, have become rewritten." Etc. Etc.
    The faculty has been affected.
    The environment has been affected.
Terrible, right? All the Tmimisdige Shepselach here in Lakewood will believe every word she wrote, right? And then write a check, right?
Turning the page, I see endorsements by three Rabonim, ... . So I wondered, where's Rav Shteineman's endorsement? Wouldn't the Gadol Hador sign onto such a vital Kol Koreh, against a Gezeiras Shmad Mamish?? Or how about the Sar Hatorah, Rav Chaim Shlita? Or any number of mainstream Chassidic Rebbe's? Not one?

So I did what any Baal Seichel would do, a google search, and this is what I found.
JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Knesset voted to exempt haredi Orthodox schools from teaching the core curriculum of general studies.
The bill passed its second and third readings late Monday night by a vote of 41 to 28.

The new law cancels a law passed in the previous government, which did not include any haredi Orthodox parties, requiring haredi Orthodox elementary schools to teach 11 hours of math, science and English. THE LAW WAS NEVER ENFORCED.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had promised the haredi Orthodox United Torah Judaism party that he would remove the core curriculum requirements as part of its coalition agreement.

The law requiring the teaching of core curriculum subjects had been championed by Yair Lapid and his Yesh Atid party, which is no longer part of the government coalition.

“The Israeli government has sold our children’s future and taken from an entire generation the ability to support themselves,” Yesh Atid said in a statement.

There are about 44,000 students in the haredi Orthodox elementary education system.

So every word she wrote is a lie. Yet, the Voice publishes this garbage without doing due diligence? A Bushah and a Charpah. Remember what happened to the Miraglim for speaking L"H about Eretz Yisroel?
The voice should do a retraction and an apology.

    1. In your own words Mr, Anonymous "Remember what happened to the Miraglim for speaking L"H about Eretz Yisroel?"
You write that 3 Rabbonim sugned an endorsement.. So I checked the voice and they are Gedolei Olam, Who do you think YOU are??
Who are you to stick your head in something you know nothing about? Do you live in Eretz Yisrael? The 3 gedolim who endored stand on their own merits they dont need a haskama from Rav Aaron Leib or Rav Chaim shlita. You are looking to fan the flames of machlokes when not everything goes your way. You should publicly ask mechillah and be ashamed of yourself. FEH!!

    2. You do realize you didn't answer anything......didn't one of these "Gedolei Olam" stand by at a Satmer protest while they called Harav Shteinman an Apikores?
