Chaos, confusion and a lack of preperdness and planning at polling places in Lakewood

Election day across Lakewood was exciting, there was a  historic presidential vote on the ballot, but on the other hand it was an abysmal collapse of the election infrastructure across Lakewood. Voters waited in lines for over two hours in packed rooms and social halls to cast their vote. Districts were confusing as to who votes where, people living o the same block were told to vote in two different places. Districts with a few thousand registered voters were only staffed with a few voting machines.
True, many factors contributed to the chaos, Parents brought children to the booth and have them see a democratic voting process take place, and the nature of a democratic election brings more people to the polls.
However a lack of planing on behalf of township officials and the last minute write in endorsements by the Lakewood VAAD and IGUD (which was a mistake) contributed much to the mayhem and made the actual voting take longer by writing in long names. These slots for the BOE were empty for a while and the Igud could have got names up on the ballot earlier preventing the write ins.
Come tonight to the township meting and demand a better election preparedness and planning for next year.

  2. sure the committee will yell louder than everybody about it. but that's because there's nothing they can do about it directly. Elections are totally controlled by the county.

    1. Shenky is on the board of elections and he's a member of the lakewood Vaad. He pushed everyone to go vote. Blame him.

  3. I've never understood why everyone doesn't just vote by mail. Yes, you miss a bit of the voting experience. But it sure beats going out to the polling place and waiting in line.

I personally vote in just about every election, but haven't seen the inside of a voting booth in years

  4. It's controlled by the county but somehow they opened a district in Bmg Herzka bldng. The committee should advocate for ALL of Lakewood's needs.

  5. lakewood post office is notorious for trashing loads of mail when they feel they can get away with it, e.g. bulk mailings and simchah invitations. I'm sure your mailed vote has a 90% chance of ending up at public works dept. instead of the the board of elections
