Video: Planning board Lakewood 10/26/2016

The board president announced that pursuant to directions that they've received from the Township Committee, they will be a lot tougher now on approving variances and they would prefer that applications reduce density and come with no variances.

  1. A small victory! The people have spoken. Now we need a total moratorium on all large housing projects ( 5 units or more). We need to focus on industrial and resposibly built commercial only. The recent rehab of Martin Luther King apartments are not being marketed to our community because certain people want to make money from new construction. Totally irresponsible and once again shortsighted.

  2. Most families looking for homes now are flocking to Jackson and Toms River where they will get a better value for their tax dollars. There is no longer a need for congested overpriced developments. We need a total moratorium as every month brings us closers to total gridlock. Our lives actually depend on it. Every day we have more and more accidents. This is no longer an opinion,it is now a fact. Meir and Menashe should resign if they cannot pull away from their obvious conflicts of interest. They need to show a serious reversal of their previous actions. If they cannot do the will of the people, the people will revolt and it won't be pretty.

  5. How does the township go & change the zoning in an entire area to approve hundreds\thouands of houses in the 'oak street corridor', and then declare they're starting to be tough on approvals. Unless they retroactively change back the zoning to avoid adding to the traffic nightmare in the area, this is just for optics. Who are they kidding.

  6. Yawn Yawn. Call me collect when the people with friends have projects denied and permanently shelved . Old strategy of the unholy alliance (trinity) push off, make some noise, bury a loser and his project and a few months later the heat is off.

BTW I read about some traffic study touted in the Trinity mouthpieces over YT as a solution . Is that a joke?? Build build build because we are doing a study that the sucker taxpayers sitting in traffic are paying for?? We don't need to spend 500k to take the heat off for having allowed this insanity. Any discussion about widening Rt 9 is a ploy to continue building. If even 5% of his intentions were having the town citizens in mind to help the traffic issue, there would be a 2 year moratorium on any projects (including anything existing that's still possible to stop) while ideas are researched.

Bunch of fools to fall for such posturing. One thing and one thing will actually showing they care. A full stop. Done finito. When a master plan that makes sense is created then opening up new building could be discussed.

  7. Oh and one more thing that been mentioned before... Could we not have attorneys who create bogus hospital zones, schools that get huge donations from developers and are huge developers themselves etc etc sitting on the master plan committee. Seriously do they take us for fools with the makeup.

But guess what they do and they are right. They have done it for years and will continue.

When M & M start acknowledging that they danced as Rome burned maybe, maybe there will be a start.

  9. Why is there opposition to the shul in Hearthstone? is it for other reasons like in westgate.
Chairman demands parking yet the Hearthstone shul has less parking.

    1. Nothing can be like Westgate! The kinah, sinah, gaavah and kavod are unbeatable.

    2. Terrible I was there on Yuntiff it was packed! How they dont allow shuls to build is achzariyus!
where is the Westgate Rav? Why is this allowed to go on under his watch.

    3. the guy speaking against a shul is a rebbi in a local cheder. terrible chilul Hashem.
also neiman admits he's his cousin but refuses to recuse himself because of the conflict of interest. and he allows the rebbi's wife to read a letter from a supposed neighbor after he himself says that it is hearsay and inadmissible. and then he doesn't allow shul members to speak. shame shame.

    4. Neiman acted the same way regarding Westgate

    5. The guys who opposed the Kelmwoods shul expansion should also be ashamed at the Chilul Hashem. One of them is a local Rav who sent his wife to fight in court another is a rosh hamosad another one is A Daf Yomi Magid shiur. Yes kinah Sinah and Gaavah can overtake anyone.

    6. It all comes down to who you know and how well connected you are. If your opposition is good with the establishment you will lose. If you are connected they will let you build.

Karelitz shul on Williams street was passed on 1st try despite opposition- well connected with BMG and others

Avreichim shul on Tenth and Clifton- A Lakewood Vaad member fought them with all his protektzia- their building sits empty with only a foundation to this day.

Westgate- Kelmwoods BM in desperate need of expansion trying for 5 years to expand- Westgate mayor has connections with BMG, mayor Miller establishment etc.. Getting the run around from township still cant build.

Hearthstone new shul- Members not well connected plans got pushed off to next meeting.

Lutzk shul- well connected- building went right up

    7. The issue with the Hearthstone shul is that Rabbi Norman originally promised it would only be a Shabbos shul, so they allowed him to build. Now he suddenly wants a weekday shul, which will ruin the quiet beautiful cul-de-sac. All the members of the shul live far away from the shul, and will drive to the shul three times a day. A quiet block will become a major thoroughfare. Not fair. Even a choshuve rebbe publicly opposed this shul.

      Delete
    8. anon 10:33 is all lies. no rov opposed it. A man who is henpecked by his wife is not a "choshuve rebbe". Rabbi Weisenfeld is for it. all members live very close and don't need to drive.
the bottom line is if someone has a tainoh he should have agreed to go to bais din. but he refused. opposing a shul in erkaos is a terrible chilul Hashem and a terrible precedent for anyone ever trying to make a shul in Jackson or Toms River or wherever. all they have to do now is say that even the jews are opposed to shuls.
there was really no need for any variances as the shul is already there and already approved. neiman had a conflict of interest but refused to recuse himself and openly flouted the law.
the planning board never cared about cul-de-sacs in hearthstone. they nixed a deal to keep the cul-de-sacs at the other end of princeton and netherwoods because they couldn't care less about quiet and beautiful blah blah blah and are turning those into thoroughfares with no concern for anyone.
this is a small shul where all members can walk and will hardly affect anyone.
either you don't know the facts or are deliberately being misleading.

    9. Precedent to oppose shuls has already been set in Westgate. They hired a lawyer to fight against the shul. PP Rav sent his wife to fight against the shul. Rav Zimbal did not issue a letter telling his mispalelim not to oppose. This was all after a psak Bais Din saying the shul can proceed. The EG Mikva Mandel and co.. did not stop anyone from blamimh and using the mikva card after the fact that they had a din Torah.
You can thank Westgate shul members for what is now happening in Hearthstone and will nebach happen in neighboring towns too.

    10. I thought Rav Z promised that he would write such a letter. What's stopping him doing it now? Better late than never! I think it would go a long way to showing his mispallelim the correct way of doing things!

    11. And he would be out of a job...get real..

    12. Aha! So it all boils down to money and kavod. Not safety or tznius etc. At least the truth is coming out. Thank you hefkervelt!

    13. Anon 9:21 hasn't refuted the claims made by anon 10:33.
Rabbi Norman promised it would be just a Shabbos shul, so the neighbors approved. Now he suddenly wants to change to a weekday Shul.
He lied. Why should anyone believe him now when he says the members wonlt drive to shul 3 times a day? Of course they will. Nobody is fooled.
They should stop shuls everywhere, especially Jackson and Toms River, based on the lies and deceit of the lakewood shuls.
Every shul in Lakewood has people driving to shul 3 times a day. Every shul in Lakewood destroyed the block. And yes, Jewish neighbors oppose every shul in Lakewood.
Hopefully Jackson and Toms River learn from lakewood's mistakes and don't allow their neighborhoods to be destroyed.

    14. okay. so there should be no shuls. anywhere. everyone should buy dreidels so no one will realize they are davening.

      Delete
    15. It's not the shuls that are destroying the neighborhoods - it's the kavod fressers and control megalomaniacs who can't FARGIN people a decent shul because Chas vesholom it might detract from their kavod.

    16. There should be Shabbos shuls.
For weekday shuls, drive to the large centrally located shuls that have plenty of parking and don't ruin life for their neighbors.

      Delete
    17. which centrally located shul has plenty of parking? satmar? no. ateres yeshaya? no. chestnut? no. central court? no. westgate? lol.

      Delete
    18. Make a centrally located in shul in Shoprite Plaza or Chemed or Chateau Plaza or NPGS, etc. It is crazy to have weekday shuls in residential neighborhoods.

    19. Sounds like history repeating itself - make the yidden only be allowed to be in xxxxxx location. Make the yidden only be allowed to do xxxxx. Shame on all you kavod fressers. Is this how low we yidden are now going to stoop? Hashem yerachem!

      Delete
    20. You're out of your mind. History will repeat itself if you continue to act like you deserve everything.
There is no reason that yidden can't act with the same decency to their neighbors like Christian churches act to their neighbors. Build huge shuls and churches, but build them in central locations with plenty of parking, and in ways that do not infringe on neighbors' quality of life.
If you feel you deserve to trample on your neighbors' quality of life, then yes, you will create enemies and history will eventually repeat itself...

      Delete
    21. And if people continue to be kavod fressers and baalei gaavah, baalei sinah and baalei kinah then history will also repeat itself. There are 2 sides to every coin.

  10. To any complainers on here:

Is there 1 simple way to solve all problems? Not necessarily.

I'll tell you one think that won't solve anything. Sitting at home and doing nothing.

Do all promises, actions and discussions by committeemen mean that the game is all over? No
Do you have a different or better idea for change? Please share them here - and then email me at takebacklakewood@gmail.com where we can have a substantive discussion.
Do you disagree with what happened in the past? Much of it is not retractable. Is it too late to stop all of the projects already approved? Yes. All excellent valid points. That does not mean that we should sit back and give up on the future. The fact is that while many people have complained for years, I a simple person sitting at a computer have gotten certain significant things to happen in just a few weeks.

Is the game over? No. It's just starting. Please show up to the game and join in with your ideas, input and feedback instead of just continuing to grumble.

Do you really care?? Then show up to the township committee meeting on Thurs. Nov 10th at 7:30. If 100 people show up that will be a game changer. And if 5 people show up then I know that all you want to do is be a couch quarterback and a pessimist.

www.takebacklakewood.com has already received over 3,600 hits. I know that the majority of Lakewood wants the status quo to change. How? There are many ways. The fact is that this is now a discussion. Suddenly Mayor Miller claims in righteous indignation that he is against density! (lol). This dominated the Township committee meeting last night and has all of the township committee members and zoning/planning board members on edge. Please join in with ideas, suggestions and your presence at the meeting Nov 10th so that the promises that committee members are now making are actually followed up on.
