Video: Reporters walk in on a closed meeting of the Lakewood masterplan commitee. officials suspend meeting

A meeting of the sub committee for the Lakewood masterplan  was advertised on the Lakewood township website  as an executive session which was closed to the public. A reporter for NJnews and Views along with First amendment activist who videoed the meeting (watch below) walked in on the surprised officials claiming the meeting was in violation of the open meetings act. Committee member Mr. Flancebaum said they were under legal council of the Lakewood township attorney, however the reporter refused to leave threatening to go to the prosecutors office if they have her removed. After not getting hold of the township attorney the meeting chairman Mr. Reinman of the Lakewood Industrial Commission suspended the meeting until further notice.

  1. thank you for posting this video. i really appreciate it. it really shames me to see what a dishonest & corrupt world we are living in today. it shames me even more when i know that these jewish politicians are also my personal friends for years of me growing up with them in Lakewood. what a chillul Hashem & i thank this journalist for standing up for justice & honesty. maybe if these videos got out like it is here then politicians would be more honest & scared lest they be caught of corruptions as has many senators & governors recently & famous currenly the lying hillary clinton. may she be brought wayyyyyyyyyy downhill

  2. Good for her she is doing what all o us should do. Why is it executive session? Makes no sense. It is just an excuse that it should not be open to the public so they can talk openly and make their deals...

  3. awesome job.
    Let's get some transparency!

  4. This master plan committee is literally following the playbook in how to get overturned. There is zero chance that someone who challenges the process in court after the plan comes out will not prevail. I don't care what advice they are getting from their attorney. These videos are a godsend to any case. and optics do manner to the Judge. Putting it nicely, the optics of how this is being done portray the members if the committee in a negative light.

And yes, I am a local attorney who prefers that my practice not be ruined by the powers that be and therefore write this incognito.

    1. I am also an attorney. Lived in Lakewood, but no longer. Isn't this the most amazing place from a lawyer's point of view? Ascob1@aol.com

  6. Once again we see the lies our Township Committee continues to feed the public. We saw on video, Menashe and Meir publicly saying that all masterplan meetings will be open to the public. They continue to play with the public trust.
Why don't we have independent planners at these meetings? Why don't we hire a urban developer to give his opinion on how lakewood should develop in the future? The simple reason is, because all qualified urban developers would say the same thing. We can't build new housing developments anymore. It's that simple.
I have one thing to say to all of you that have violated the public trust. Go get real jobs that don't hurt the taxpayers and residents of Lakewood. We don't have to sacrifice for your position in life. Go do what you are qualified for and leave the town alone.

    1. Menashe Miller already has a real job. He works for CHEMED and owns several properties in town via various partnerships & LLC's.

  7. We are trusting the incompetent LIC who negotiated the disastrous Blue claws deal, who are spending over 2 million tax dollars on airplane hangers for the rich and well connected, they are now deciding the masterplan for Lakewood???

  8. And don't forget the "very successful" L Bus that was created.

  9. Njnewsandviews. She spoke excellent. It's about time this was revealed. We are paying dearly for all these back door deals. Everything gets decided in back room deals. The committee meetings are simply a show. The public has no real input. I would take this guys camera into every closed door meeting of the Township committee. Then we would see what menashe and meir had to say.

  10. I would vote for you Harrold. I think a lot of the young generation (my generation) would vote for you as well. We need change.

  11. yes. The L bus is a joke. Have they issued an apology for wasting our $$$. I am not sure why Miller and Lichtenstein don't let some new blood in. Overall, they have not done us well. And it's the struggling Lakewood homeowner who suffers.

  12. People don't realize how much revenue is lost from local businesses due to overbuilding. Increased traffic does not increase business. More people rarely means more money. It means that people don't have the time or desire to fight the traffic in order to shop. They simply abstain or buy online. I no longer want to keep my businesses in Lakewood and I know many stores that feel the same way. Just like home buyers that are looking to other towns in order to ensure that they don't buy their dream home, only to wake up one morning and find a nuclear power plant being built next door, businesses are looking at towns that have normal traffic and density and care about their success. People from lakewood are happier shopping outside of Lakewood as well.
15 years ago our town had so much potential. If our growth was managed responsibly, lakewood would be a shining example of what a beautiful Jewish community could be instead of the mess that it is today.
Menashe and Meir should resign for making their personal gain more important than the sound development of our town. They should leave before they are shamed into leaving. We will all nod and smile as they list all their dubious accomplishments at the Township goodbye party.

  13. The comment (on this video and on the last video that was posted) about having closed meetings so that “Nobody can profit from knowing what changes are going to me made” is the ultimate irony.  It is also an indication of how stupid they assume all us “Sheep” are that they would think that we would take that answer for its face value”.  The facts are completely the opposite.  To the extent that the master plan committee operates in secret and is stacked with people with ties to developers ONLY THE DEVELOPERS CAN GAIN FROM THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT’S GOING TO CHANGE!! The whole idea of having open meeting is to level the playing field and give everyone the same info!!  This reminds me of the first video of the zoning board where the chairman made an announcement on behalf of his fellow board members, “Everybody be careful with what you say, you’re on video”… They’ve operated like a tiny dictatorship for so long they don’t even realize how, in the harsh light of reality, what they are saying sounds ridicules.

  14. I don't understand. If they are concerned about people getting inside information about growth planning, how can Adam Pfeffer, who represents developers and builders be on the committee?

  15. Honest people should hire a person to video full time all township private meetings and post it all over. Then you will see the town change to a much better situation with honest politicians. Shut down the government township until they promise to listen to all people and do what the community wants. This is their job

  16. Why is an engineer who represents most of the builders in town on any Township Committee.

  17. I went to the public meeting last night to speak out against the 32 duplexes and Shul that they are building on the corner of Prospect and Massachusetts.

The project is insane for that corner and they are asking for multiple variances. After waiting 2 hours till they got to it, the board decided that the plans weren't complete and pushed it off for a later date.

They make it impossible for the public to attend these things. Who has time in their busy day to waste 2 hours only to get pushed of to a later date?

Additionally, these boards need to sanction dishonest attorney's and engineers. They try to pass it off as not needing any variances, and "previously approved" when it was not the case. The plans they showed didn't even reflect their current plans.

They are destroying this town. The damage they are now doing can never been undone. Someone offered the owner of the smaller self storage place on Prospect St. $4.2 million for the property. they would need to build another ghetto on that small piece of land to recoup their investment.

Aside for that, businesses will move out (or whatever businesses are left in the "mixed zones". Prospect is going to be a parking lot, what business will want to stay their (except maybe another grocery store).

There is already a large warehouse sitting vacant on Cross St. for a while. Cross St. is a nightmare, what large business is going to move there? I am sure it is only a matter of time before the owner of the property seeks to turn it into residential housing.

  18. I have a BIGGER question: Why is Mayor Menashe Miller suddenly and very quickly abolishing the Rent Control Board?? Which developer/landlord is he working to protect??? There was never even a discussion about this important issue at any previous committee meeting? Why did he quietly sneak in (during summer Bein Hazmanim) at the bottom of last Thursday's Agenda a total repeal of the Township Ordinance requiring a Rent Control Board? How will this help the struggling yungeleit and other hardworking tenants from being exploited by unfair practices? Riboina D'almah!!

There is definitely a bigger story here that we aren't being told.

    1. A few months ago someone took westgate to the board I wonder if it has anything to do with that

    2. Which developer in town is the landlord for all of the Westgate rental units? What kind of political (or other) connections does the landlord & his partners have with Menashe Miller & Meir Lichtenstein (or Meir's real estate management company)?? It's incredible that these "committeemen" will abolish an entire Government Board just to protect a good "friend." Do they really believe they can quickly sneak this corrupt act before anyone realizes? They're trying to get away with some very shady stuff right under our very noses! People are talking Menashe & Meir.. You're being sloppy...

  19. Why is the so much traffic? Overdevelopment.
Why do we have this huge busing problem? Overdevelopment.
But guess what they are going to rezone the whole cross street for more development.

  20. Side one of the mouth: Everyone should get involved come to meetings ask questions. Side Two of the mouth: Shoots people are actually coming lets make more executive sessions and limit comments to ordinances.

  21. Kudos to Joyce and the First Amendment Activist for their time to attend this "secret" meeting. Many excellent comments on why this was termed an illegal meeting, hence barring the public in learning how their town is being manipulated.

  22. open for public attendance, is not the same as open for public comment. thats what has flancbaum confused. either that, or hes playing dumb

  23. First amendment activist is awesome! Great job from Joyce as well. Keep showing the public What these Mushchasim are doing to our town.
