Judi's Ride Home: Shan and Toad is NOT discriminating against Jews!

Yesteday on NJ101.5 callers discussed a story about a retailer that won't accept returns from several towns -- all with high Orthodox Jewish populations. Naturaly, the orthodox bashing was in full swing. Host Judi Franco explained the practice. If you’re an online shopper you know that most online retailers have very liberal return policies. One store’s unusual policy will happily give “some” people a refund. Shan and Toad, an Israeli-based business with Orthodox Jewish owners, has decided not to give refunds to folks from both Lakewood and Passaic City, as well as three other stores in
New York What do all those towns have in common? The high percentage of Orthodox Jews living in them.
Is this store being discriminatory? Well, yes. But not against Jews — against people who return too much! watch Video HERE

  1. perhaps too many from this list of communites were returning tons of it after trying it on & it wasnt worth the owners hassle just to try 10 in order to buy 1 or 2

i know of a certain large business that moved its location out to another town cause the people who lived in their original location were only coming to them mostly for their sales & hardly buying any other regular items with it thus the large company was not making too much in that location to be worth it for them.

  3. 1. I have a client with an amazon business, and he used to show me all his lakewood and boro park returns were 25% of his returns and less than 1% of his sales. Amazon gives him a report, on request. And the year in question, every single sale to lakewood except one, was returned. And he doesn't sell a product line that is particular to the heimishe market.

    2. One day, his daughter who lives in lakewood is in his office, and sees a neighbors order come in. She was about to take it out if the UPS shipping line, when she realizes the neighbor supposedly doesn't have a computer; so as not to embarrass her on her lie, she let it go via UPS.

    3. None of the heimishe stores in Both park, willy, and flatbush take returns. I suppose lakewood, too.

    4. This is besides the fact they return it after using it for a few weeks.

    2. the neighbor claims she won't use someone else's computer. In fact refuses to take a job that involves computer usage, actuall yuses a typewriter at work, etc. Even non internet computer.

And not because she is uncoordinated to usea computer. Just won't do something that looks like internet usage.

    3. I see women in Lakewood shopping on amazon in the Lakewood Public Library any time I go there. So there is no reason t think she was lying when she said she had no computer but shops online.

If she doesn't go to the library maybe she shops in Chatue internet office

  4. Judi, I disagree. the store is providing a shop at home service which many other stores provide. Orthodox jews traditionally have large families Its common to order a few sizes per child and then keep what fits and return the rest. If this store does not like it they should not offer this service.

  5. Fact is, these 5 locations have the largest young family demographic, so it follows that there would be more returns. Honestly any frum psn who shops there is just dumb.
