Feeling the heat township backs off proposal to abolish rent control board

In a rare interview, Lakewood Mayor Menashe Miller tells the Lakewood scoop website, ahead of time, that the township will vote down an Ordinance that just last week they voted to pass. He said the reason to abolish the rent control board was since the voluntary board did not meet on a regular basis, they were going to replace it with a more efficient agency. Well, having an insider on the township as a one man show paid by the town does not frankly make it more efficient. The make up of the board according to township code is a system of fairness were both landlords and tenants are equally represented. A one man board would have never done that. Board members have now committed to serve said the mayor which is why they will now vote down the ordinance.
The Ordinance to abolish the rent control board was snuck into the township agenda with no prior public dialogue or  correspondence with the Lakewood tenants. Suspicion quickly arose as to the true motives behind abolishing the rent control board. Some members of the rent control board were not aware or informed of the ordinance to abolish the board they serve on. Local Residents and blogs had suspicions about this Ordinance.

  1. This is such an obvious case of the fox getting caught in the hen house. (is that even an expression? Well it is now). Menashe and Meir have tried to make sure the rent control board had as little power as possible until now for obvious reasons. We all know that Meir has grown his real estate management company tenfold over the years he has been in office. Menashe is well known for the favors that he does for certain individuals. It was more than a coincidence that they very quietly tried to abolish the rent control board at this time while the board was deciding a case about a landlord who coincidentally has connections to Menashe and Meir. The fact that a "press release" was made after the first reading with lies about using the County rent control board, which does not exist, is proof that their original intentions were less than above board.
Now we have an unprecedented "press release" to the Lakewood scoop explaining that they will not abolish the board. What changed? One simple word. HEFKERVELT.
Menashe now had to answer some very serious allegations. Abolishing a legal entity to protect an individual or group is a very serious issue. What's next? Close down the courthouse because your daughter got a speeding ticket? I bet he would if he could. Covering up lies is like a constant game of whack a mole. You knock one down and another pops right back up.
So now, here is a real well known saying I would like to use.
"Oh! What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive"

  2. The interview with the scoop was very odd. First, the scpoop never reported anything pertaining to the township regarding that removal of the RCB all of a sudden there is a Exclusive interview whih is the first anyone hears about it. Very strange.

  5. As always the cover up is worse than the crime. Look at Bill and Hillary Clinton. Menashe is in full damage control now. These lame excuses won't go to far. Why in the world did he mess with the rental board how can we trust our politicians to represent us.

  6. Once again Westgate renters were left out to dry by MM. Menashe was no were seen or heard when a shul in WG was not allowed to build. He has to stop listening to his buddies aka the WG mayor and mafia and remember he represents the whole town.

  7. My fellow residents of Lakewood, the rent control board was a red herring. It was a smokescreen to cover the real issue.

THE REAL ISSUE THAT THE TOWNSHIP COMMITTEE DOESN'T"T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW ABOUT is that at tonight's meeting, they are going to have the second reading of an ordinance to adopt new zoning maps

This is going to add thousands housing units to Lakewood, and millions of dollars to certain individuals pockets.

They didn't want a big crowd at this committee meeting, because they didn't want people questioning the new zoning map

  8. The Committee also is planning to rezone the entire farm off Ridge Ave from R-15 down to R-12 and bring in dozens of triplexes, as it will be so much easier to get the right variances with the newer zone category.

  9. What happened to Yudelstake Blog? The Story has gone conspicuously missing. Was he threatened??

  10. This is insane? How dare they rezone anything while they discuss redoing the master plan? The only rezoning that they should have done was less density. Lower height limits in areas that would allow 5 story buildings. Yes. The downtown should not have 5 story buildings. And yes I will have to build one if they don't change the zoning. They are going to destroy this town permanently before we can stop them. I know we need to make town square into municipal parking, but can we hold off until we can use it to take menashe and meir into the town square and give them a good flogging? They really need petch

    1. Herschel, you need to make it 8 stories and put a digital billboard on top, that will be the only way to get your message out.
