Vuss meint a schtickle?

A misinterpretation of the yiddish word "Shtickle" which means a small amount has caused Jackson township officials to file complaints and for an investigation with the Department of Justice and the NJ Attorney General over  remarks in a Agudah convention video regarding the Lakewood housing crisis.  Rabbi Lefkowitz called on members of the Orthodox community to become “schtickle pioneers” willing to settle in outlying areas that don’t currently have the same ready access to synagogues, yeshivas and kosher markets that make enclaves like Lakewood so convenient and attractive for Orthodox families.A local news site translated the word shtickle to mean moving to second class areas. APP reports The council believes the comment are evidence of neighborhood "blockbusting" efforts, but an Orthodox official says the comments are being misinterpreted. 1. Just like in Ocean and Howell lawsuits stating discrimination, the government will now decide what they think is true and bring more scrutiny to our community in the process. I am worried that the most outspoken and aggressive of us are ruining it for everybody.

  2. A critical element of blockbusting is that the sales price be substantially lower than market. The Haredim are paying above market prices. Only in America do people complain about getting more than their house is worth.

    1. I think their fear is that once one house is sold to Haredim (at above market), the neighborhood will be unappealing to buyers other than Orthodox and they will have to accept below market offers because they will not get any others. We have to let them know that goyim and Orthodox are the same to us and Hashem so that they do not have this fear.

    2. That still isn't "blockbusting". Blockbusting is a practice of instilling fear into a homeowner that their home will be worthless once Jews or blacks move in. They buy the home at a reduced fire sale price and then hike up the price for the Jewish or black community etc. What is now happening is the polar opposite of Blockbusting. Every block that has two Jewish homes goes up in value. In turn Jews buy one block away and cause the value of that block to rise. This "investigation" is simply the rant of an extremely antisemitic blogger from Jackson. I hope the justice department sends him packing. Mr. Phil Stilton is good friends with the Bursztyn and Wenger mafia. They have a longstanding relationship of intimidating those they choose as enemies. Everything they say or write should be ignored.

  3. The prices in Jackson not near the Lakewood border have not gone up. The areas near the Lakewood border have gone up 20 per cent or more in a year . I don't call that blockbusting.
