Competition is a good thing

Food shopping in Lakewood has never been this affordable in a while. The competition from newer stores and other existing stores only benefit the consumer.

  2. Competition is healthy. But charging below cost for a few sale items is a way to ensnare unsuspecting customers to a store and then rip them off with their other higher than everywhere else prices. Caveat emptor!

  3. shloimy's and farm fresh are on the verge of closing because of the carpetbaggers. when evergreen opens the same will probably happen to super stop. gourmet glatt is only cheap on sale items and is very expensive on other things. uneducated shoppers don't realize this. they are losing money on the sale items, but they are not trying to make money now. in any event, their plan is to put everyone else out of business and then raise the prices.

    1. and why isn't Farm Fresh a carpet bagger an opportunist from New York opened it up way back and sold it to his family friend who then moved to Lakewood.

  4. Competition is a great thing, however if stores start closing down because they can't compete with GG, then prices are going to go way up, let's be honest, GG aren't a bunch of tzadikim, they are in it for the money, and if and when they can, they will raise their prices way up.

One of the best ways to keep prices lower would be to have food distributors and suppliers from Lakewood. We are still relying on Brooklyn distributors and that is why prices are higher than in Brooklyn. When too many stores compete for the same market, it never ends well. There may be some lower prices initially, but the last one standing after the bloodbath will expect to profit handsomely from his patience and loss of money for years. In the long run it is the worst thing for a town. When new communities are created, new opportunities and businesses emerge. What is happening now is not healthy or good for anybody. Besides competition among stores, another factor that is causing businesses to close is traffic. Many groceries are relying solely on their closest shoppers due to traffic. Even faithful customers are leaving their old groceries due to the long time it takes to reach them.
Businesses in Lakewood are under constant pressure to advertise, market, open in multiple locations, and give perks to keep customers. This makes them focus on artifice instead of having a great store.
Other towns create loyal customers, and in return thankful businesses put their profits back into their town. The current business atmosphere of dog eat dog is harmful not only in the long run, but in the short term as well. I no longer am proud to say I do business in Lakewood, nor will I become a part of the feeding frenzy.

If there was a way for menashe to control the weather for his benefit, I can guarantee you he would, regardless of what the ramifications would be to others. Unfortunately there are many Menashe Millers in this town. He is simply to blame more because he has been the connection to the government for the other 15 or so movers and takers in our town. Do you not agree that we need to stop complaining and do something about all of this? Get rid of these selfish people and do for the Klal? Should we sit idly by as selfish individuals take for themselves and worse, make us all look bad and cause irreparable Chillul Hashem? Isn't it time to end all the sinas chinom Within our Community caused by all this selfishness? To be continued

  8. Do you remember the town watchdog website? there was lots of corruption involved with menashe. Let's start with his refusal to put up a light at Pine and MLK

    1. The one to be upset at is the other committee men who let menashe get away with personal conflicts. Such as not installing a light at the intersection of Pine & MLK

  9. For a blogger who spews venom and hate in almost every post , to complain about sinas chinom,is a little hypocritical

    1. The bloggers are reacting to the leadership that sold them out. To the politicians who stole their votes only to use it for personal gain. The sinas Chinam was caused by the decisions made by a select few stepping on an entire tzibbur. The olam has had it they can't afford to live this way. This is not what anyone had in mind. It's time for the askanim and politicians to step down and let others take over who are not beholden to a few corrupt money and power hungry individuals.

When a person complains That someone is stepping on their foot or Hurting them is that Sinas Chinom? I don't hate anyone. Yet I watch how Heads of schools and Rabonim, people in kashrus and businessmen, so called askonim, heads of tzedakas all curse each other out. I get upset about it and I get accused of sinas Chinom. Cute. But it's not gonna work. Anyone that knows me, knows Indont hate anybody, I just want to see certain people stop hurting others . if my intention was simply to hurt someone else, I would do it anonymously, like you.
