It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Moshe Schwab zt”l, rosh kollel of the Detroit Lakewood Kollel in Oak Park, Michigan.
Rav Moshe was a noted talmid chochom and marbitz Torah, who devoted his life to teaching and spreading Torah. Decades ago, Rav Moshe, along with Rav Shmuel Irons, sparked a remarkable revolution in Detroit by bringing yungeleit of Lakewood’s Beth Medrash Govoah to the city and raising its levels of communal Torah study. Rav Moshe suffered a stroke and was in a week-long coma before passing away today. Rav Schwab was a son of Reb Chaim Tzvi Schwab z”l.
The levaya will take place tonight, at 8 p.m., at the Kollel of Oak Park, located at 15230 Lincoln in Oak Park, Michigan.

ReplyDeleteHe created a mokom where ernste choshoveh yungeleit learn torah lishma .with none of the new lakewood gashmiyus....its almost impossible to describe the loss.....a pikeach godol a gevaldigeh baal machsavah...shmuezing that were himmeldik...always olam haba ...always the Eibishtyer and who remained in the backround ..pushing the right buttons and always allowing others to take the credit....it was well known that he would learn straight through friday nights with nothing but black coffee...his yegias hatorah and eitzah vsoshia from his back office in the kollel was lhaflee....those who were zoche to shmuez and be miyeatz with Reb Moshe z'tlin his office know what I am referring too...
