State monitor to slash Courtesy busing for next year among other cuts

APP.com reports the State monitor is proposing major cuts to plug a 12 million dollar hole. Lakewood- A proposed budget for the 2016-17 school year eliminates courtesy busing, slashes 68 teaching positions, and cancels all middle-school sports and clubs, among other draconian measures aimed at closing a projected $12 million deficit. The Board of Education is scheduled to vote tonight on the tentative budget at a special meeting at the high school, starting at 8 p.m. Some of the cuts -- although notably not the cancellation of courtesy busing service, which would affect more than 10,000 schoolchildren -- could be avoided if voters approve a series of seven itemized referendum questions totaling more than $8.3 million in additional tax levies in November. read more at APP.com

  1. Azzara is really delusional to the point of needing phsycological help. He wasted $400k of our tax dollars on a referendum that was defeated, when the taxpayers bussing was at stake

Now he thinks a referendum for even more taxes will pass, when the taxpayers bussing isn't even on the table?
