Come back to the downtown

Guest post.
There is once again parking in the downtown area. proof positive that the illegally built bais horaah caused all the parking problems for over a year. There is no way that they can figure out how much loss they have caused businesses adjacent to them. Hopefully customers that have stopped coming to these businesses will now return. Once again, there is only one solution for the Bais Horaahs future existence. That is a parking lot of their own. As it stands now there is no area large enough to provide the spaces needed for the multitude of uses that have been added to that building in the last year. Local businesses have been more than patient and tried to compromise. This is not a simple non compliance for a C of O issue. A building with that many uses of that type would normally require close to 100 parking g spaces.

This was ignored and the owners figured they could just take away the parking from the downtown businesses. They were evicted once their lies were uncovered. We advocated for them to return over a year ago if they would be able to add a parking lot to their building . We gave them 3 months to begin the process. In that time, they secretly tried to trick us and get approvals with no parking. Since then they even added more services from the Capitol Motel, causing a bigger parking issue. Ask anyone and they will tell you that in the last two years they have given up trying to park in the Bagel Nosh lot. The hefsed that the Bais Horaah has caused is immeasurable. They were called to a din Torah and refused. I am not the Sheriff, I don't demand compliance to every ordinance. But when people's livelihoods are suffering because of one person's selfishness I cannot stand by and watch.  I hope Menashe  advises the owners to either somehow obtain real parking, or sell the building to a single use buyer that will not hurt other businesses.

On a side note. To Those that insist that the building does not cause any parking problems. There were multiple spaces available to park at all times throughout the day today. Every day they were evicted the parking lots were only half full. So to all Hefkervelt readers that may have given up in frustration trying to get the best Bagel anywhere, please come back, there is plenty of parking again. And to those that were learning and davening in Bais Horaah all this time and are now inconvenienced to have to move. I am sorry about the situation, but now you can have the satisfaction of knowing that your learning and davening is not Yotzeh Schar Behefsaido.

    2. What's your basis? I never had any issue parking by bagel nosh and every time I go there, there is a huge line so obviously there is not such a huge issue. If it was like Harold makes it sound, I would think bagel nosh is always empty because no one goes there anymore and they are ready to close down. In fact, they are about to expand into the former Pipo flowers store so they must have some business. Unless it's only people that walk there!! Calm down.

    3. Ever since the kollel bais horaah moved in I've had a difficult time finding a spot to park in when trying to do business at BP or shopping at Bagel Nosh and Scheiber's. On too many occasions I drove around the block several times before finally giving up and taking my business elsewhere.

The kollel bais horaah moved in there using trickery. Had the building owner been truthful in the beginning and admitted that he planned to also rent to the kollel and they would hog all those spots for their exclusive use, the application would never have been approved. It's a pure chillul hashem for them to continue this geferlach and dishonest behavior. When you're wrong, you're wrong!

The bais horaah should relocate to an area where they are not stealing parking which is already used for an existing retail district.

It's beyond belief that the kollel's Board would even permit such behavior to continue when it has the immediate and long term effect of pashut stealing parnassah from the hard-working store owners.

I guess it costs too much money for them to be moideh al ha'emes. But if that's indeed the case, then the learning is not achieving the proper effect.

    5. The kollel is stealing the parking spots which the customers would park in, if only having the opportunity..

Apparently, the kollel has also been taking away many needed spots from Dr. Shanik's parking lot across the street and inconveniencing many cholim trying to get medical care. How the rosh kollel alllows this is a pure shanda!

  8. My taxes paid for the parking lot behind bagel nosh. My taxes paid for the parking next door toys for thought. All tax payers have a right to park wherever they want. The township builds plenty of parking for those businesses with the right last names or connections. The bais horaah serves the public and should have the township provide them with as much parking as they need. Just like toys for thought and bagel nosh.

  9. Bais horah is NOT a service to the public
Its a businesses like every other bussiness in this town.

  11. What type of revenue and taxes does bais horah pay similar to bagel nosh?

  12. Bagel nosh is one store of many, we shouldn't allow their customers to use more than 15% of the parking spots.

  13. Employees of the various business fill up the parking lots, and then they cry foul.

Let the township enforce the 2 hour limit! There shouldn't be selective enforcement catering to those who cry loudest.

The Bais Horaah lied to get approvals when it was built. It is a fact. The reason they lied is because had they told the truth they would have been required to have a parking lot. They also have a catering hall, a bank upstairs with 30 cubicles and a Kollel with 40+ according to their own description. They Lied because they needed to have a parking lot in order not to take away parking from existing businesses. Therefore what they did was steal from the existing businesses. To add insult to injury, they moved all the Capitol services into the building. The reason we have zoning and planning rules is in order not to hurt others. They hurt many businesses and are now pressuring Rabbis to help them continue to steal. I have worked for years to try to improve our downtown. Now I have to sit back and watch as one selfish man with his mobster friends strong arm their way into hurting others.the owners of the building were asked to go to a Bais din. They refused. They know they would lose. It is an open shut case. They lied, cheated, deceived, every step of the way. It's all documented. From first resolution to tax abatement to appeals, all lies. They did all this with the help of Menashe Miller and The Shopper mafia. I will not stand for this any longer. I will be there to protest any approval, even if my fellow merchants are now too scared to speak up. These mobsters put up a sign to boycott Pizza plus? Is that normal? Is this Torah? I don't think so.

    1. how come no one saw this pizza plus sign besides you?
is it okay to take taxpayer money by selling your own property to the township to have them make it into a parking lot for your own store?
is it okay to change a one-way street into two-way to get more customers for your store and take away ten downtown spots on the street and create safety issues?
is it okay to do all this by using threats, blackmail and mafia tactics?
is it okay to make backroom deals with you-know-who to gain his silence in exchange for attacking everyone but him?
      it's all documented.

    2. The discrepancy between the needed parking and all the imagined uses of the building are minor at best. Bank is not busy. Building is generally quiet. Catering hall is used at night when business are closed, bais medrash doesn't have 40 ppl learning there regularly and you know it. The impact is nonexistent. You been exposed time and again as someone who has an alternate view of reality. Blah blah blah, nobody believes your drivel anymore, so you resort too mafia this mafia that. Your ineptidy in running your business should not be anyone elses blame. I'm sure you will be there to protest, and everyone else there will have a good time laughing and your usual meltdown.

There are 30 cubicles upstairs and on the letter written to the judge the Bais Horaah wrote that there are 40+ displaced students. The parking lots are very busy as it is and cannot handle any excess. It doesn't really matter to me what happens. I will win either way. But the remaining businesses and the downtown will be destroyed.

As a side note. The upcoming approval of the Bais Horaah if passed will set a precedent for all other approvals. From now on you will be able to lie to the planning board. Use the building for whatever you wish. Then go back for a change of use. The ramifications will cause total chaos on future planning. I actually kind of want to see it happen. No more planning. No more building enforcement at all. Lakewood will look like a shanty town in India.

  21. Calm down everyone. Nothing happened to Torah. The yungeleit are learning as much as before and are getting paid ten times what they were being paid before they were evicted. (Actually it is a thousand times what they were being paid) Torah did not suffer.
There was no necessity for this Beis HaMedrash to be built there. None at all. They could learn anywhere in 08701 and it would be just as useful to society. But that would not allow everyone who drives down Route 9 to see that Lakewood has a Bais Hoiro'oh and a Beis DIn (who are the Dayanim? when do they sit?)
So propaganda has been closed down, not Torah.

  22. I don't know anything about what is legal or illegal about Bais Horoah, but I do know that I always find parking in downtown Lakewood. It is far better than finding parking in Brooklyn or New York City. Maybe the reason people can't find find parking is because they don't want to have to walk too far to where they are going. Walking is the best exercise for you.
