Seniors oppose, Igud offers tentative support for busing deal

The Seniors oppose the current busing deal being considered, APP.com reports SAG members are "outraged that taxpayer money would be used for courtesy busing after nearly 99 percent of voters rejected a referendum Jan. 26 asking for an additional tax levy of $6.2 million for that purpose. Meanwhile, in an email,  to the APP  "Rabbi Moshe Weisberg, the leader of the Igud Hamosdos, an organization that represents the Orthodox Jewish private schools, offered "tentative" support for the township aid plan, "if it will lead to multi-year framework for a partnership agreement between the Township, the District, the schools and the State.". Township willl discuss the deal this Thursday.

  1. seniors don't understand that it us the township's responsibility to provide for the safety of all these walking children. adding all these police officers and crossing guards will cost the taxpayer more than 1.5 million.

  2. I don't get why if this is a truely safety issue, why aren't other non-mandatory items cut first?

  3. The voters rejected 6.2 million for a short term band aid with no discussion of the future and with the 6.2 million becoming part of the new boe budget for years to come. The twp already commited 1 million last year to make the deal. If commiting another 1.5 million will achieve something that will help fix the problem for the future ,then that is something totally different. A lot less money, not part of the boe budget for years to come ,and more than a short term band aid. Twp commitee definitely has the right to consider that because its totally different from what was voted down.

    1. If the public voted down no new taxes that means no new taxes. I don't care how you package it, the township has no right to spend another dime on busing if the public has spoken

    2. That is your opinion. I am also a voter and I also voted it down. But I am an informed voter and voted it down because it was too much money for a very short period of busing.I also knew that this would remain part of the BOE budget forever and could be taxed and used for anything in future years. If it was less money with a fix for the future and not part of the BOE budget ,then I as a voter consider that very different and would consider allowing the twp to spend it. Do you can speak for yourself but not for everybody else.
