Storm aftermath- Residents start petition

The following petition was sent to the township committee HERE
As I'm sure you all know, our town was hit with a severe blizzard on January 22nd. The storm dumped nearly two feet of snow on the streets of Lakewood. The storm was accurately forecasted by meteorologists, and as such, should have been taken properly into account by the Department of Public Works. However, as is painfully obvious to all, the Township has done a horrific job of getting the roads plowed and drivable. Clearly there is a serious lack of planning, oversight, and most importantly, competence in Lakewood's Department of Public Works. The leadership must change and should begin at the top with the resignation of Department of Public Works Director Alvin Burdge. Please sign and share this petition with others so that hopefully, as a community, we can make some meaningful change.

  1. I think Menashe Miller should resign. The last time there was such chaos after a storm was when he was Mayor also. He seems to be incompetent.

  2. If his hands are tied why should he resign, we need the committee men to resign, & a new vote together with the referendum, for new committee men, If the vote was held tomorrow, & the masses could get there to vote, I guarantee you they are all out.
    Time for recall.

  3. AL Burge is completely out of touch with what this town needs. He is living in Lakewood past. He is in his position because of who he knows not what he knows. It is time for him to retire and let someone more suitable take charge. But more than him, we need to leave over all the condominium complexes that are not part of the regular town plan, to arrange private snow removal and garbage pickup. We will give them a tax discount and we can go on to focus on the rest of town with our new head of public works. As far as our COMMITEE Menashe and Meir made a spectacle of themselves running to do favors for specific people and leaving the entire town in the lurch. This is a prime example of the problems they are causing in keeping our town from running smoothly. Their little game also cost taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars this week as they scrambled to fix their broken system with private snow plows. We need to start the Faulkner Act process now. I would do it, but the entire downtown area has not been plowed and I need to dig out my businesses

    1. Hershel what favors are you talking about. You made a fool of yourself believing a rumor that the streets around Lake Terrace were plowed. Well guess what as of 930 this morning I couldnt get to work on Towbin bc oak & Tobin were STILL NOT PLOWED

    2. Its no rumor at all. Maybe on those streets the committee dumped snow back onto the street to cover up for the snow clearing that went on when the rest of the town was stuck.

    3. I'm willing to spend $50,000 of my own money to have an outside firm investigate all the corruption.
We spend more then surrounding towns on RE Taxes and we can't even get our streets plowed... now they want to take busing away from our kids. Can anyone list one accomplishment that Menashe and Meir accomplished for this town??

    4. There is a parking lot that serves a single building that is a town owned lot on 9th and Clifton. Doesn't service any taxpayers buildings . it was cleared by Sunday afternoon. Municipal parking lots in downtown were still not touched. It is so easy to try and belittle what I say by calling me a fool. But I assure you, I am nobody's fool. I do not make up stories, I don't even investigate and look for corruption. But Menashe must go. He is corrupt, inept, and pathetic in his attempts to look like something he is not . Meir should go with him. The two of them have caused these "growing pains" but in reality it is a house of Cards they created. It is toppling now. Plain and simple.

  5. I feel the resignation should start with Menashe Miller & Meir Lichtinstien the buck starts with them. They should have sensed the bad planning. It is not something new that started yesterday.

  6. I feel if heads do roll at the DPW Tony Arechie must go too. He is the one that should have been on top of the planning. My feeling is he purposely sabotaged the planning so every one will blame Al hoping Al will get fired and he will take over. My hunch.

  7. Why do people keep voting for the incompetent Miller and Lichtenstein?

  8. All I know is that the 2 years that Isaac was mayor we saw the plow and salt trucks all over town. Last time we had such a mess was when menashe was mayor. I drove by public works yesterday and saw 9 plow trucks parked. This is the fault of all of us that are either to busy to vote, or say that their vote won't make a difference. This is America and we have a say in our government. But when we have the opportunity to have a say we don't have time to.

  9. Last year we had sub zero temperatures and the salt was barely working. However the township was trying, and kept on salting. This was cause Isaac was mayor!!!

  11. If you know that a few thousand people are going to be using a particular street for an event and it is pikuach nefesh that there might be accidents because of the traffic ,then there is nothing wrong in making sure that those streets are plowed first . That is not called doing favors . Its called being smart . Obviously a street that has a thousand drivers per hour should be cleared before a small cul de sac .

    1. So you cancel the event and reshcedule. Would they have done the same if a private person had a chasunah there? or if a mexican concert was to take place? the ansewr is probably NO. B Ut when your askanim drive oem and township vehicles there is a different set of rules.

    2. Sorry I disagree . I have nothing to do with the event or its sponsors . But every street has to be plowed anyway . Nothing wrong in doing first a street that is projected to have a lot of traffic because the sponsor has his reasons not to cancel . Yes the same should have happened if there was a big chasunah for a private person with a lot of traffic anticipated . I agree its wrong to do it for a Yochid ,but thats not the case here .

    1. Call Donny Rotenberg he is the boss and the only one that has to be answered up to. Its an outrage the way they treat the olam.

    2. They are told to treat people like animals from the owner, I am eagerly looking forward to the day i move out of this place, they seem to get a special satisfaction in causing their residents agmas nefesh, be it the lack of plows or shoveling, the refusal to refund security deposits, or lack of shul seats.

  14. Donny rottenberg should personally come down and see the mess that is going on instead of hiding and letting this get out of control
