Anger and fury mounts as residents are stuck

Enough of all the self congratulatory videos and photo ops, Lakewood residents  are furious with the township snow plowing efforts. There are streets that did not see a plow since the onset of the storm. Other streets were plowed numerous times again and again. With so much talk and time to prepare they just dont seem to know how to handle this. YWN reports they received numerous emails from Lakewood residents complaining of the lack of snow removal.

  4. Somebody should clarify the record here - we all work on our middos, our patience, our being mevater, and accepting anything that comes our way as our due - but what about the responsibility of the people assigned to care for these tasks, people who are collecting taxes that are so high, people who publish pictures of themselves in the glory of their efforts - isn't there responsibility when you have a 'public/emergency' type of job, that you have to fulfill your responsibility - should we be doing a little focus on responsibility and caring of doing your job properly.

  8. Westgate i s a nightmare.

They plowed some streets over and over but DID NOT TOUCH the parking lots.

The residents who pay sky high rents are stuck.

    Will fike a law suite.

If you want to break your lease you will win in court.
The rich landlords are abusing the poor tenents again.
They are breaking the terms of the lease. This is unacceptable.

  9. It is time to start a 'taxpayer orginization - VAAD' someone who will represent us. End of story. Theres a VAAD who represents BMG a vaad for the schools... They are so nice to not pay any taxes as they are tax exempt but tell us taxpayers who to vote for.. Makes no sense let those who want to vote for bmg interest listed to their vaad and those who want to listen to tax payers vaad listen to taxpayers vaad. Who is spearheading this?? Lets get some ideas started Enough is enough

    1. I have been saying this for more than 20 years. The so-called VA'AD has people who have their own self interest NOT THE TZIBBUR AT LARGE.
They are ALL nogeiah b'davar. EVERY ONE OF THEM. (YES even Rabbi S.)
We need our OWN organization. Call it Lakewood Neighborhood Association.
Another thing. Just because we have 4 of "unzereh" on the township committee doesn't mean a thing. Many if not most of the township dept. are controlled by entrenched bureaucrats who could care less about us and there is NOTHING that those on the committee can do about it. That's why complaining about the DPW will not help. They sit around drinkning coffee etc and laugh about how they will send out a couple of plows here and there and if they get a call from some politician in town they just ignore what they tell them and do it the way they want.
(Same goes for the Board of Ed, but I don't want to get into that now.)
The bottom line, we pay and pay and pay and the ASS-KANIM and the others (nisht unzereh) just have tremendous laughing fits....

  15. Why would a Lakewood OEM truck plow a private parking lot in Westgate while other township roads were not touched!!!

    1. because at 3am after a whole night of working to help the rest of lakewood before he crawled into bed to get a few hours of sleep he was nice and plowed the parking lot for all his neighbors. (the truck wasn't going to be used then by anyone else)

  16. BREAKING NEWS>>>>>>>> We just found out, 12 hours after the largest blizzard to hit Lakewood in decades, that Lakewood is woefully unprepared to deal with the aftermath! Gee whiz it didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that a Department of Public Works that has 5 trucks and 7 golf carts wouldn’t be able to tackle a city, yes a city, the size and scope of Lakewood?! Which by the way is 24 square miles of some of the most densely populated neighborhoods in New Jersey!
We have to realize that we don’t live in this quaint little town anymore! Lakewood is a big city and growing very fast. We have to lose the small shtetl mentality and we have to implement some drastic changes to mitigate a terrible disaster that Lakewood can G-d forbid become!
1- We need to overhaul the governing body in Lakewood. No more committee! We need to divide the city into districts and structure a city council with members elected to serve the citizens of each particular district, modeled after most big cities in the country. That provides accountability on the grassroots level and enables localized growth, productivity and ensures that the needs of locals are met. So for example…If my neighborhood wasn’t plowed I have a number of my local councilman that I can call to complain and expect results! There has to be accountability, no more excuses!!
2- We need specialized “committees” in the council that will oversee different parts of city government and its related budgets, with rotating “chairs.” So for example after the “Blizzard of ‘16” there can be hearings to get to the bottom of the DPW, so heads can roll and preparedness actualized!
3- The mayor has to be elected directly and the Mayor will then be empowered to select deputies and commissioners to run the many citywide departments i.e. DPW, police etc.
4- Police precincts scattered around the city in strategic locations, to combat crime more efficiently, accelerate response times and to be able to provide a good old fashioned cop on the beat.
5- We need many new public/private partnerships to attract investment, tourism, economic development and industry.
There is a dearth of long term vision and prudence in formulating public policy in Lakewood and therefore its vital that we look for the best and the brightest for both elected and appointed officeholders. Men/women with foresight, experience and courage to take the helm of our city and make it great. We are a freakin’ city with the projections that Lakewood will be the SECOND LARGEST city in NJ by 2025! In 9 years will we still have the LCSW (who btw do wonderful work) pinch hitting for the DPW or LPD?! Guys we gotta do it and do it now. Rise up because we don’t want to become Detroit, we really don’t!!

  17. I have never seen such incompetence in all my life! Ive been around, and I have never seen a city that just doesn't plow.
From what I can tell, it seems people in lakewood are used to this. People seem to be beyond complaining....

old story, westgate is the worst when it comes to plowing, the worse when it comes to shoveling, the worst when it comes to extending your lease, the worst when it comes to refunding your security deposit, the worst when it comes to being mechlichcit, the worst when it comes to giving it's residents a place to daven etc...
