First of two public meetings on Rt 9 traffic

How can traffic flow and safety be improved on congested sections of Route 9 in Toms River and Lakewood?

A public meeting scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Toms River will discuss potential fixes that could help improve traffic issues in the area.
-- The meeting will be held in the Mancini Room of the Ocean County Library, located at 101 Washington St. There will be two presentations at the meeting, at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

there will be another open house on August 25, from 5 to 8 p.m.. at the Lakewood Municipal Building, 231 Third St.

-- It’s being held by the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority to find solutions for an area where the highway, a two-lane road, has grown increasingly congested, as development in northern sections of Toms River, as well as neighboring Lakewood, has skyrocketed.

-- The planning authority hopes to develop a set of low-cost spot improvements that could be made to the highway area to improve traffic flow as well as the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists, examine the function and placement of traffic signals in the area, and make recommendations to municipalities about potential master plan changes for properties near the highway.
