NJ officials expedite Food stamps applications

TRENTON – Residents applying for food assistance would get a receipt from government agents and some low-income New Jerseyans would qualify for expedited access to benefits under bills moving in the Legislature. 
A state Senate committee this week approved two bills aimed at speeding up delivery of benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — once known as food stamps. The Assembly already has passed similar legislation by wide margins. Read more..

Post Sandy traumatic disorder contributed to blizzard prepardness hype

The blizzard never came but the preparation was of epic proportions. Stores shelves were emptied, travel bans, askanim urging residents to stay off the roads, non stop hype of what was to come. It was apparent the effects of Hurricane Sandy are still fresh on the hearts of minds of many which was an underlying factor in the response to the blizzard that did not come. During Sandy ppl were stuck for days with no electricity, food or even gas for the cars. People are not taking chances anymore.

90 minute delay for BOE busing-icy road conditions

As per the BOE  website, there is a 90 minute delay for busing and school openings due to icy road conditions on secondary roads.

Storm update 18-24 expected

The latest models are putting Monmouth and ocean counties in the 20+ inch count. Today we will have periods of light snow that could leave a couple of inches with a high in the 20's. Tonight steady & heavier snow develops. Winds pick up and you should be off the roads! tomorrow heavy snow & wind in the AM will taper off In the afternoon with a high in the low 20's!

6:00 pm- 2-3 inches would have fallen
10:00  pm storm intensifies
4:00 am crux of the storm 2-3 inches per hour
1:00 pm Tuesday- Storm blows out to sea.

Snow accumulation downgraded for Lakewood 8-14 inches expected

Some forecasters are reading the newest data and snow models it is similar to it's 12z run of not having a very robust precipitation field until you get to eastern Long Island and New England. It gives very little snow to southern NJ. 8-14 inches for the rest of NJ. 10-15 for NYC and western LI. 12-24+ for eastern LI/CT and eastern MA/

Rebbe returns to cheder a few weeks after going into cardiac arrest

In what is clearly a Neis, a Cheder Rebbe in Lakewood was back in his classroom on Friday, just a few weeks after going into cardiac arrest.

Reb Yitzchok Reuvain ben Rochel Fraida Brandwein, a Rebbe in Lakewood Cheder, was revived by Lakewood Hatzolah after being found unresponsive at his home following a massive heart attack. He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent open-heart surgery. Bichasdei Hashem, he returned to his classroom on Friday – just a few weeks later – and was greeted by singing and dancing.
