Local papers advertise food for the big game

An Ihr hatorah should be embarrassed to have ads in some of its weekly magazines pertaining to the Superbowl. Editors cleverly left out the word Superbowl or super Sunday, but anyone looking for it knows exactly what it means. The national frum media stopped publishing ads with mention of the Superbowl but in der heiliger shtut anything goes.

Post Sandy traumatic disorder contributed to blizzard prepardness hype

The blizzard never came but the preparation was of epic proportions. Stores shelves were emptied, travel bans, askanim urging residents to stay off the roads, non stop hype of what was to come. It was apparent the effects of Hurricane Sandy are still fresh on the hearts of minds of many which was an underlying factor in the response to the blizzard that did not come. During Sandy ppl were stuck for days with no electricity, food or even gas for the cars. People are not taking chances anymore.

Why is Lakewood Township website not updated with important blizzard information?

How are the residents of Lakewood suppose to get vital information regarding weather related issues. The Township spent alot of money on a website yet at the most vital time there is no updated snow information. To rely on 3rd party websites is not an option. There should be an official website with updates so residents can know what to do and expect. Other sites have banned users and blocked IP addresses,  thus they can not be counted on by locals for the needed information and updates.

Who is the current Mayor of Lakewood?

If you read the Lakewood shopper you wouldn't know. They still have Deputy Mayor Menashe Miller listed as Mayor even though he currently is the deputy mayor. The current mayor is committeeman Albert Ackerman who gets no mention in the Lakewood shopper at all. Does the paper have it in for him, or just too slow to change the graphics in the Lakewood news feature.

Can we have a day in Lakewood for the local residents

Its nice for our  Askanim, politicians and committeemen to reach out to those looking to move to Lakewood. It would be nicer if they spent more time for the concerns of the current residents living in Lakewood. what are they doing to ease the burden of high property taxes? what are they doing to help get kids into school. to ease the traffic and congestion. Can we have a day in Lakewood for too?

Where is the colored shirt?

Why do people love stereotyping Lakewood. A Photo making its rounds of a Lakewood cleaners. Yes it is a Town of Bnei Torah and Baal habatim Bnei Torah. It makes no difference what  color shirt you wear why is this always an issue.

עניי עירך קודמין

It appears agents, developers, and askanim are rolling out the red carpet for those interested in moving to Lakewood. They are offered help with all community services in helping to make a smooth transition. Help, from finding a job, to which family doctor to use and getting kids into school. Lakewood is B'H a welcoming town open to all who want to live in a town of Torah values. Yet, are we doing enough for those that live here for years, are we doing enough to help those that have no pull or protektzia find jobs get kids into school etc.. In addition there are many young Lakewood couples who are looking to buy a house in town are we doing enough to help them purchase a affordable home?

How much would it cost?

There is obviously more to the story in this picture. What comes to mind is how much would it cost to educate a frum  child in the public school system. Besides the fact of what it would cost to have everyone enrolled, there are other expenses on top of that. The cultural differences, the kosher food aspect, the language barrier, etc.

New schools set to open for coming year to service growing demand

For those parents that dont have a place to send their kinderlach to school there is hope. T New schools will be opening for the coming school year, helping to ease the growing demand. For boys schools- Talmud Torah of Lakewood, for the litvish olam and Damesek eliezer, Belz, Stolin for the more heimish crowds. For ther Girls schools, Nachlas Bais Yaakov, will open under the guidance of Rav Elya Brudny. They are currently open for kindergarden and primary registration. Another new girl school is in formation as well.

Locals could use these services too

A ad by Belz Chasidus targeting potential heimishe couples who are contemplating of moving to Lakewood from Brooklyn. It would be nice if these services would be offered to those that are currently living in lakewood yet are lost and have no way of working the Lakewood system getting kids into school etc.. or finding a good Doctor.

A threat to to the VAAD ?

The growing power of senior citizen voters in the township has given older residents a new-found voice in local politics, one that has already approved heating system upgrades in public schools while cutting local taxes at the same time.  Members of the Senior Action Group say they are adding their voice to the political dialogue as they advocate for their community members, many of whom live on fixed incomes yet pay millions in property taxes while using few of the services offered by the township and school system... ...Rabbi Aaron Kotler — a prominent member of the Vaad and the president and chief executive officer of Beth Medrash Govoha, one of the largest yeshivas in the world — said he views SAG as a community partner he wants to work with, not as a potential political opponent.   read more ..
