Schools promise to end acceptance process by Rosh Chodesh Adar

No more procrastinating, in an effort to avoid aggravation, agmas nefesh, and tzaar, regarding school registration some mosdos are implementing a new system. They agreed to start registration by December 29th or 7 Teves and send out acceptance letters no later than Rosh Chodesh Adar. The boys and girls schools will than work with a Vaad of asskanim that will make sure each and every Lakewood child is placed in a school. Due to the limited space in Lakewood classrooms, parents are asked to apply to multiple schools. A similar system was put in place previously for the high schools, now lets hope some positive changes will come about to the elementary schools.

Divorces, mesira now the norm ?

Comment submitted.
Its no secret, Lakewood is experiencing a very high divorce rate. families are being torn apart, kids are living yesomim, and its only getting worse. Many divorces came about from incompetent therapists, many of them are very young with minimal life experience. Some are woman who do not consult with Daas Torah/older experienced Rabbonim. Even older ones dont have much experience dealing with shalom bayis issues.

Local Community Mourns Loss Of Rabbi Killed In Israeli Synagogue Attack

VIDEO
By Cleve Bryan
LAKEWOOD Twp., NJ (CBS) – An Orthodox Jewish community is mourning the loss of a rabbi with ties to Lakewood Township who was killed in an Israeli synagogue attack.
Rabbi Moshe Twersky only lived in Lakewood for a short time but his son Rafael Twersky is a student at the rabbinical college.
Lakewood Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein went to Rafael Twersky’s home early Tuesday morning as names were released of the victims in Jerusalem attack.
“Well I walked into the apartment and he was just crying,” says Lichtenstein who tried to console the younger Twersky and help him make travel arrangements to attend his father’s burial.
Tuesday afternoon he delivered a statement from Rabbi Moshe Twersky’s widowed wife:
“He was a most remarkable, beloved husband, father and grandfather

High taxes forcing rental prices to shoot up, now topping $1300 +utilities

How can a newlywed young couple afford to rent an apartment in Lakewood?. The price for a 3 BR basement is going for $1250. Its not plain greed or supply and demand, rather, the huge tax increases imposed on the tzibbur, is leaving homeowners with no choice but to raise the rent. If we keep going this way, we will price ourselves out of our homes and force couples to look and move elsewhere.

New school acceptance vaad in formation

A new Vaad is forming to help make sure all Lakewood children are accepted in a school before the next school year. After pressure from gevirim and others, askanim got together to set up a committee that will oversee the school registration process. Time will tell if anything will come of this. For now lets give them a shot.

School registration season begins

Its the time of year new parents dread, applications for the coming school year.  The registration process usually begins a few weeks after Sukkos. Some schools promised to push it off until after chanukah. The system as is, contributes to the problem resulting in many parents not knowing if they have a school until literally the beginning of the new school year. While parents apply now, they dont always receive an answer and they are strung along for 6- 8 months. Some schools request an immediate answer from parents to reply,  while the more established schools have the luxury of not responding to an application. Parents than find themselves humiliated, at the mercy of school administrators and askanim pleading for their child to be accepted. The path to a child's chinuch should not begin like this.

בא שבת בא מנוחה

Following a tumultuous election week, non stop campaigning, robo calls, letters, flyers and what not, The olam is looking to put that public battle behind them. The shtut was thrust into a bitter election that was full of divisiveness and machlokes. It is time to focus on how to move forward and take lessons from what was learnt. There are many pressing issues and concerns affecting the tzibbur that must be addressed and can not be ignored. There is no reason to wait again until the next election cycle to bring up the issues with more broken promises pushing it off again and again.

Frustration and anger from the Tzibbur can not be ignored

Elections always bring out emotions and feelings. The tzibbur awoke, they must be listened to. The reality is, many young couples in Lakewood are struggling, they can not make ends meet. They are being choked with tuition and taxes. There are no brakes. The feeling is there is no one looking out for them or advocating on their behalf. On the contrary, they feel used and abused with taxes going up and up and the askanim who run the town couldn't care less. They are treated like children told who to vote for with no explanation. It is time for a new vaad hair that will be elected and appointed by the taxpayers to fight for the mishpachos in Lakewood who cant afford to live like this anymore.

Other races not getting much attention

With all the noise surrounding the election for township committee, the BOE elections and senate are not getting much attention. It is the BOE who decides how much of  the tax dollars will be spent on education. Lets not forget the recent cuts to busing and the $30 million referendum added to the tax payers. The igud endorsement is without any explanation, do your own research. On the senate race the olam is divided over supporting a pro toaiva candidate.

Vote with your seichel and tax bill

Many are frustrated not knowing who to vote for.  The tzibbur should be allowed to decide on their own what is in their best interest when voting for any candidate. The vaad rightfully can decide what is best for them, while the tzibbur can decide what is best for them. candidate Moishe Raitzik as a newcomer should be a good choice bringing a fresh face to the committee. Many are frustrated with the non stop increases in property taxes and can not afford to live or buy a house in Lakewood. Incumbents have been here for too long to claim this has nothing to do with them. There are many different groups that have personal interests. The only way for a united voice is, if everyone feels equally represented. Until than the olam will vote based on what they believe is in their best interest. Unfortunately the klal has not had an opportunity to hear from all the candidates and make an informed and educated decision on who to vote for.

Senator Booker Tov eats milchig Melava malka in lakewood

US senator Cory Booker whos a frequent visitor loves the Lakewood food establishments. The senator is here so often, he will soon run for Township committee. The raid is Cory went into Judaica plaza and asked for a certain type of כתובה  for siddur kiddushin which of course they dont carry.

Elections take on a nasty turn

It didnt take long but the upcoming elections for township committee is heating up and taking on a nasty turn, as usual. The vaad who endorsed a candidate in the primary elections have decided not to back him in the general. Despite promises to the contrary, this candidate was given the boot. A mailing went out asking what happened between now and June? why the sudden change. More shocking was the vaad always preaches and goes to great lengths supporting incumbents based on the merit of hakoras hatov. Something very dear to the lakewood Rosh yeshiva Rav Shneur Zatzal. Hold tight while it plays itself out. The tzibbur should make their own desicion on who to vote for. Incumbents that are responsible for the current sky rocketing property taxes have alot of explaining to do if they seek  reelection.
